These micro wastelands drain the life from cities. It’s time we imagine better.
This has been a hot topic in Detroit for a number of years. This is from a couple years ago; nothing has changed: Imagine a Detroit built for people, not for parking cars. The very wealthy Ilitch family got lots of tax breaks for their Little Caesars Arena, which was supposed to be the catalyst for development. Yup … for the development of a whole lot of Ilitch owned surface lots. Unfortunately, I don’t see it getting better anytime soon.
In downtown Denver, it seems like parking lots are usually full or near full (at least at the times we want them). But perhaps in other areas of the city they do have similar concerns.
