Ward Churchill Update & U Colo Pres. resignation

We are currently in Colorado, and the big news (aside from the tragedy in Atlanta) is the resignation of the U. Colo president Elizabeth Hoffman and attempts to get rid of Ward Churchill. They are attempting to buy out his tenure contract to make him go away, but negotiations stalled last night. They were apparently trying to find an amount large enough for him to accept, but small enough that it wouldn’t be totally offensive to the community. They were apparently at around 30K, which I think they said was about equal to 3 yrs salary (he earns 100k?!!?). Latest news was that they are investigating possible plagarism and other possible violations of his contract. He’s threatening to sue. Lovely.

They are also following up on the football recruiting scandal of last year, but the coach sounded rather unapologetic, saying that this was pretty routine, and the general population just didn’t understand. Not a very diplomatic statement. Maybe I misheard him. I can hope. Otherwise, U Colo.faculty and staff could really use some PR training.

Ward Churchhill really sounds like a Richard’.
He was told not to come and speak by the president of Eastern Wa University but said he was coming anyway
The ACLU of course- those bunch of liberal dogooders ( which is one of my major charities)is advocating on his behalf, citing that if we allow protesters to determine who gives a public talk, we are allowing mob rule ( my words).
I see their point but- he sure isn’t going to get any good press for the university.

I don’t think the ACLU advocated for David Horowitz when he was doing his college tour trying to stir up debate on the reparations issue. A lot of protestors were trying to determine who gives a public talk then, and a lot of student newspapers were stolen and destroyed if they dared to publish his ads, with no response by college administrations. They seem awfully selective in their support of speech, these days.

speaking of David Horowitz

As far as Hoffman is concerned it is “Good riddance to bad rubbish.”

It is never been clear why she let that scumbag of a football coach keep his job but my suspicion has always been that her own hands were probably not entirely clean. i.e. she may have known more about what was going on than has ever come out or else there is stuff that has never come out.

Churchill the ersatz Indian should never have been hired in the first place and paying that crapweasel even $1 to hit the bricks is a disservice to the students and alumni of Colorado and a misuse of taxpayer money. If I were in the state legislature I would be pushing through an appropriation for a bushel of feathers, a bucket of tar, a rail, and a large body of volunteers to run his behind out to the state line.
