Warning, CHERYLs is no longer a good buy of the day

So I had been a fan of Cheryl’s based on rec’s here. And I had had no problems. Until now. Turns out, when the offer specials, they don’t spend the extra money on a tracking number, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE CUSTOMER PAYS FULL PRICE FOR SHIPPING on the samplers or the try me boxes.

I sent some cookies for final exams to D. There have been some problems with packages arriving at her location, and she is not the D that calls the minute they arrive. So I thought I would check. I found the email I received that said that the box shipped AND THAT HAD A TRACKING NUMBER. It was for USPS and was a suspiciously short number. I clicked and USPS said the had no record and check the number.

I called Cheryl’s. I was first told it has not yet shipped, then was told it had but they could not locate the tracking, and finally I was told the truth, that it was a SHAM tracking number and that on those specials they don’t pay extra for tracking. But the customer, ME, paid for the shipping for 6.99 no less. I asked her if she thought that was ethical. The web site clearly states that all shipments have tracking numbers. And EVERY SHIPMENT gets an email saying it shipped and providing a shipping number. But they put in sham numbers for the inexpensive things you buy, and for the specials they run. But they charge you full price for the shipping.

I won’t be doing business with them again. I told the customer service rep I hoped “Cheryl” knew that she was doing was just plain unethical and wrong.

You might want to contact UPS. If the shipper is claiming tracking and then not providing it, they may be in violation of their contract with UPS (depending on the precise details of the contract). In any case, it’s a potential nightmare for UPS.

It’s USPS. They use USPS for the specials and samplers.

USPS… sorry, apparently I can’t read. USPS tracking is extremely hard for shippers to implement. It’s actually cheaper for us (as an internet shipper) to self-insure on USPS than it is to put together a tracking system.

I don’t have a problem with no tracking. I have a problem with saying there will be tracking, and issuing a email with a tracking number, only to find out there is none and the number is just put into the system as they can’t override it if there is not number. The company calls it a sham number, and they just enter one to enter.

No where on the website does it say that the specials are sent USPS not UPS and that you will pay the SAME for shipping, but there will be no shipping/tracking number, and that the email you get is wrong and the number loaded into it is a sham number cause that is what we do.

I think I’ve heard that USPS is pretty inaccurate with its tracking as well – it often doesn’t bother to put info into the system. So even if Cheryl’s used the tracking service, you still might not be able to track. Not saying that what they did is excusable, but if they promise you tracking information, it might be better for them to just use UPS or FedEx.

Sorry to hear of your problem Sunnyflorida. Both D and S reported that Cheryl’s Halloween cookies were delicious, so dear H ordered a box of their Christmas cookies for each over the weekend.
I am sure that Cheryl’s will more than make it up to you for good customer relations. Do I hear free cookies for the entire campus???
I don’t mean to sound unkind, but let’s keep this matter into perspective. These are cookies, not a required textbook.
