I was just checking the website and most of the LEAP classes are full. The only ones remaining are like photography, health, mass media etc. you know the garbage courses.

Speaking of that I wanted to take business courses but they are already full so I immediately registered for an English Speech and Writing which had like 3 spots remaining…I am not sure if I want to do that…What if I don’t do the LEAP thing ? If I don’t register for anything will Penn State randomly put me in class ? Taking English does not help me at all so how do I register for a non leap business class or engineering class…LEAP or not LEAP doesn’t matter to me…

Then just choose LEAP from the course subject. That will show you how many seats are remaining…If you want to view non-leap classes just choose your major

The LEAP brochure states that if you are attending summer session and you don’t want to do LEAP you will choose from available classes when you meet with an advisor in May or June.

So how is it that you don’t need English? Most if not all of the LEAP classes fill general ed requirements. That “garbage” photography class is actually a popular class that fills an arts requirement and can be hard to get into, particularly for freshman.

@PSU85MOM Ahhhh, so I have to meet with the advisor in June ? What kind of classes are available for non-LEAP ?

Its not that I don’t need English, its not my subject of interest. I could take the boring English over the summer and get it done with. Speech and Writing has two courses “Effective Speech” and “Rhetoric and Composition”. Do both of them fill the general education req or am I better off not doing the LEAP since no subjects that are not full stand out to me…I heard if you have over 610 on the writing part of the SAT, you can opt out of the low level English and I have 630…Is ENGL 015 one of them ?

You will almost certainly take English 15 (regular) or 30 (advanced) and Speech as well as a Writing course. I don’t know of any major that does not require these classes. I found this on the FTCAP site: “If your score is 620-800* Schedule ENGL 015 or ENGL 030.” You would not be opting out of “low level” English, you are opting into college level advanced/honors English. Remedial English is English 4. I wouldn’t advise English 30 usless English/Writing is a class you enjoy. My engineering son went with English 15 but English is NOT his favorite subject! As for what will be left when you get to schedule, who knows. You may find spots in the classes you want or you may find nothing you want. I looked and saw that there is space in both micro and marco economics prides. If you don’t have econ ap credit that may be an option since you mentioned an interest in Business or Engineering. Both colleges require an econ class.

That’s extremely helpful…I will probably go towards Engineering so it requires Econ ? I am not taking AP Economics so, I should take Micro or Macro Econ plus it comes with a writing class…But I can’t decide between micro and macro…which one is more broad ? it looks like micro is more popular since there are only 15 seats remaining but macro has 20 remaining.
