I was accepted to UT Austin, UTD, TAMU, and UH with multiple scholarships that totaled full rides. Ask me anything about admissions, acceptance, and college life. I’ll do my best to answer!

Hi. I am an international all the way across the world from Vietnam. I was accepted to UTD for Engineering, and I would like to know more about:

  1. Co-op programs and internships in UTD
  2. Social life within the campus (I have heard that it’s boring since Richardson is a retired town, but what I mean here is not about parties etc. but rather about other kinds of stuff such as
  3. The cost for international after receiving 1000$ stipend/ semester and full-tuition scholarship (it’s said to be about 10000$ annually, but I don’t know whether international prices are different)
    Thank you in advance!

This is super interesting!

You should tell everyone your stats, intended major, your EFC and any hooks you may have (race, culture, first gen, etc.)

@DeadPoolCollege

Congrats on those awards. You need to put a disclaimer in your posts though. Looking at your TAMU and your UT scholarship information only (gotta run, don’t have to time to research UH and UTD) you have a strong NEED based component.

The UT University Leadership Network Scholarship is a NEED based scholarship. https://studentsuccess.utexas.edu/uln

The Terry Scholarship is a NEED based scholarship. https://www.road2college.com/thinking-about-how-to-pay-for-college/

Both of these require a strong academic records so you are to be congratulated, but you are not helping people if you don’t clarify your need based component and how it helps with these scholarships. There are MANY many many equally as strong if not stronger students at these schools who got nothing. Why? Because they have no demonstrated financial NEED.

Congrats,

So little confused on your post!
You were accepted 4 years ago or this year?
Where did you decide to attend and why?
Where are you doing currently - Working or Grad School?

I know UTD, TAMU and UH all accepts PSAT/National Merit Scholar with full ride or full tuition.
How did you only received UTAu NMS award? Can you tell me how much is/was NMS scholarship from UTA?

My Junior D is not applying to UTAu because she was told UTAu does not sponsorship National Merit Scholarships. I would like to know if you have any backdoor knowledge to match other schools?

I’m not interested on need-based scholarships, only merit base. thanks.

@carachel2 Well, the need-based aspect of the scholarship(if they are, can’t remember) is a component of the scholarship, not the whole or even a significant part. Meaning these scholarships aren’t financial aid given everyone that applies (I actually did not receive any award from Financial Aid/Financial Aid Office & FAFSA) FYI, ULN was only a small percentage of my awards, the other 75% were covered through Business Honors Scholarship, Endowed Scholarships, that aren’t need based.

@texaggie Accepted 4 years ago. I am graduating from Brown University this semester!
However, based on many friends that attended and graduated from UT, I would strongly recommend the school for business and engineering majors/career fields, since the placement for companies are incredible if not on par with my school.

@carachel2 also, it’s quite nice that you seem to know so much about me to the point to say that there are many more students that deserved scholarships than me. I was accepted to half of the Ivies, some Elites (top 10) and other top public universities. What a joke. Take that chip off your shoulder that your own kid couldn’t get a scholarship.

Thanks,

Now your post makes it clear and guessing not too helpful to class of 2018-19 Texas Colleges Application.

I know it’s only 5 years ago but college application landscape have changed so much within that time.

Good Luck to You.

@DeadPoolCollege --there is absolutely no chip on my shoulder. My kid got PLENTY of scholarship $$ from the schools where she wanted to attend.

My point is to clarify the needs based component of some of the scholarships you listed. It helps everyone—the kids who are looking for pure merit and the kids who would qualify for need based aid.

Also, @texaggie is right. Admissions and scholarships have changed dramatically in the past five years.
