About 4 and a half years ago I was dismissed from the University of Florida due to academic performance because I was clinically depressed and dealing with a lot of personal issues. I am now in a better place and trying to go back to school and was wondering what my chances are? I plan to apply to FIU, I already got my AA before transferring to UF, and I have been super involved in extracurriculars/have been working on something related to my major for the past 3 years. Thank you in advance!
I suggest that you contact FIU. Every school is going to have its own admission requirements. Since you’ve already been to community college, and originally transferred to UF, then FIU is the one that needs to make the admission decision.
In any essays you may want to focus on your maturity and drive rather than past mental health issues (which may be a red flag to some colleges).
Congrats on turning things around!
The State of Florida has an articulation agreement between Florida CCs / AA degree holders and the SUS (state university system). However, your situation may need personal attention because you earned your AA degree over 5 years ago. The length of time may or may not be an issue, but you need to check with FIU admissions (which handles transfer admissions frequently).
