Was Socrates a Christian?

Was Socrates a Christian?
He was born in B.C., so I guess he can’t really be called “Chriatian,”
Do you think he went to Heaven after he died?

For your info: Socrates was around in BC, not AD, meaning that Jesus Christ was not yet born, let alone dead. Thus he could not be a Christian. Thus he is in hell.

He might be in Limbo, though. Yeah, definitely Limbo.

Being born in DC does not mean you were not necessarily a christain. Socretes may have been a gentile who well beleived in the divinity of christ.

He could not have believed in the divinity of someone that was born almost 400 years after he died. According to scholars, he lived from about 470 BC–399 BC. I’m not talking about souls or anything mind you, but it’s not physically possible for him to have been a Christian.
It’s like calling Bismark an East German. There was no East Germany while he was alive.

Just thought I’d point that out.

So, according to you, Socrates predicted that, some 400 years after his death, an extremely influential person called Jesus would be born. He also predicted that an entire religion would be created based on the teachings of Jesus.

Socrates clearly can’t have been a Christian. I can’t give an answer to the whole heaven thing, though. In fact, no one can. I don’t want to start a debate about whether or not people who lived before Christ went to heaven. That could lead to the debate on whether or not animals go to heaven. Really, the whole topic is a can of worms.

Yeah… Olagos, gimme some of whatever you’re smoking. :P

Of course Socrates wasn’t a Christian. He wasn’t delusional at all. ;)

Definitely not. Hearing divine voices on a regular basis proves you aren’t dilusional.

For your info: Socrates was around in BC, not AD, meaning that Jesus Christ was not yet born, let alone dead. Thus he could not be a Christian. Thus he is in hell.

SO every single person according to YOU is in hell that was born before Jesus?

^ Including Moses.

NOT GOOD…wooooo

I think Socrates is more like an agnostic.

There’s no heaven,young man.

Whatever floats your boat.

Σωκράτης./*****/

Yup. Most of the good ones are in limbo, though, so it’s not that bad. Their only punishment is that they never have the slightest sense of hope.

fockermcr dont u understand what i mean. do u think christanity started when jesus came. It has been around since. The only difference was that gentiles were not allowed then.

Perhaps not, but there are intriguing similarities.

Artisan fathers, if not artisans themselves (Jesus-carpenter, Socrates-stonemason)

Wandered around marketplace talking with ordinary people

Groups of followers (although Socrates denied this)

Didn’t leave written records or notes

Followers wrote down sayings

Brought up on charges of heresy

Put to death although offered the chance of escape

Unfortunately, they don’t seem to get along…
http://www.unm.edu/~humanism/socvsjes.htm

Sure :)

Yeah, you’re right. There are similarities. However, you’re comparing Jesus to Socrates rather than stating your opinion on whether or not Socrates was some for of BC Christian.

That link is awesome.

^Meh, I’ve seen better.

But yeah, I guess it’s college applications all over again for your “heaven”. The truly good people don’t get in if they don’t have the right connections with certain people. God hates those who don’t believe in him because he is so insecure as to want our approval.

What you just wrote actually made me laugh.

I’m going to hell.

It’ll be fun
