Washington and Lee vs. Tulane vs. TCNJ/NJMS 7 year medical program?

Most medical schools calculate your science/math GPA with the average science/math GPA being a 3.75. One B can drop you down especially with the plus/minus system. To make it even more challenging they don’t count A plus as 4.3 but do count an A minus as 3.66. The stats are all posted on line on AAMC

@ucbalumnus @prezbucky @sc00per88 thanks for the advice, I hadn’t thought about it that way. I heard from program advisors that the requirement is not 100% set in stone (it changes if you choose a heavy major like BME and they also give you a pretty long grace period to raise your GPA, and if you don’t manage to raise it they’ll ask you to achieve a certain MCAT scores). The students in the program seemed to think it was not that difficult to achieve the requirements (with or without

@sc00per88 the thing is, the interest in healthcare policy is a pretty new thing (11th grade). Before that, I was insistent on oncology for a few years. My other interest is infectious disease, and to work on disease response at a government level you need to have an MD to my understanding. Because I was so set on medicine since I was young, my parents and I think that staying on that path would be best for me because even when my interests changed, they did not stray away from health in general. My parents also said that if I didn’t know what I wanted to do for graduate school with 100% certainty, I should still work towards medical school instead of going into undergrad without a specific goal. I agree that careers in the field I want can be achieved through different paths, but I looked into the qualifications of people whose jobs I’d want in the NIH, CDC, and WHO, and they all have MDs and sometimes MPHs (or some experience in public health, like a fellowship)!

@blossom27 It seems to me you will be the type of medical student that loves every rotation! Best of luck this week! You have all great options!

I chose TCNJ/NJMS! I was on the fence even this morning but talking to family members who are physicians, I committed. Thanks so much everyone for all your help
