My husband and I are going to DC this summer to visit our daughter. I was going to do a Priceline hotel, but my daughter suggested I book one through a groupon for a mystery hotel. Here’s the catch, just like priceline or hotwire, you don’t know anything except it’s rating and what you’ll pay. We did it and I’ll find out after the groupon is over, but I’d like to know now! Here’s the description:

A couple of sentences about the zoo and then this…

Some other clues - they have an outdoor pool and four separate dining options onsite. It’s within DC city limits. We reserved a king room, which I thought would have the standard king bed, but looking at the fine print it says TWO king beds! I’m wondering if that’s a typo… So, any guesses what hotel this could be?

I think there is a Marriott close to the zoo.
Washington Marriott Wardman Park. This would be my guess. There is an Omni Shoreham but it’s further away.
Have fun!!!

Keep in mind that depending on how many people traveling and the time of day the metro can get expensive if you have a car already (drove there or rental). We were there again last summer and found it cheaper to drive and park ($20-22 a day) than 4 people round trips to downtown during rush hour from the hotel ($24). Downtown parking in the summer was not a big deal also and traffic all things considered was fairly light (with a real time traffic GPS)

I’ve been to DC several times and my preferred area to stay is the hotels around Rosslyn / Key bridge.

If it’s the Wardman Park, I recently attended a conference there and it was very nice. Second the recommendation to take the metro - it’s nearby (lots of interesting restaurants along the street), clean and easy.

Don’t take a car into the city…use the Metro. A few years ago we had our parked rental car towed by the city, they lost it, we ended up going on a wild goose chase all night retrieving the car that had all our luggage in trunk.

Agree 100%.
IF four or more people, (even three) it is cheaper and much more convenient to drive.
The metro platforms after games are extremely crowded.
I never take the subway to games.
Yes, there is traffic on M Street before games and on Capitol Street afterward but still beats Metro IMHO.

Was just at the Marriott Wardman Park earlier this week. Agree, it’s definitely the one you describe. We had a single king bed. Stone’s Throw restaurant inside the hotel is nice for lunch, but a better option for most meals is just down the street - great Indian, Italian, sushi, noodle place etc. Charming neighborhood - walking friendly. We took taxis to and from the Newseum and Ford’s Theater since the metro involved a transfer midway.
