Washington is failing rape victims.

I can’t blame her for not wanting to schlep herself all the way to Harborview after she was raped and managed to get herself to her local emergency room.
It’s stressful just being on the same bus with Harborview patients, let alone waiting in their ER.

All E.Rs should have rape kits. And trained medical professionals to evaluate patients.

What happened to the teacher isn’t unusual. It’s estimated only one in 10 hospitals in Washington has a specially trained forensic nurse examiner on staff or on call to do rape kits.

I was shocked when I saw this on the news. I’m glad Patty Murray in on the case. No . . . I would not want to be in Harborview ER unless I’d been shot, in a car accident or burned and certainly not in the waiting room.
