Has anyone heard any updates? In the last few years, I think they announced the finalists on the first Friday of February, so I was feeling excited about the 2nd.

They just sent an email about the johnson scholarship decision: It will be on friday 2/2

S24 just got an email about it as well. The scholarship decision release date is 2/2 8PM ET.

Does anyone know the dates of the weekend for Johnson scholarship or how many finalists are invited to the weekend?

They gave this info during an informational Zoom in the Fall. I’ll see if I can find my notes, or maybe someone else here has it

From W&L’s Student newspaper, The Ring-Tum Phi, the school invited approximately 200 finalists to the weekend on campus, in 2022. So I’d assume this number is probably around the same this time around.

The Johnson portion of the W&L website says recipients of the Johnson Scholarship will be notified by mid March so I do not think that the competition weekend will be any later than the first week of March. Washington and Lee does have a break February 26 through March 4th. Since the finalists are ably to attend classes and stay with current Johnson scholars the competition weekend will probably not fall during that time either.

Usually around 200 students are invited to the competition weekend.

Hello! I was a Johnson Finalist last year and here were the statistics they told us at the interview weekend.
- Historically about 1/2 of the W&L Applicant pool applies for the Johnson
- In 2023, about 160 people were named as finalists
- From the pool of finalists, about 70-80 scholarships are offered with the expectation of a class of about 40-44 Johnson Scholars

Even though we will all find out tomorrow, I checked my notes from the October Zoom:
- March 3-5 (Sun - Tues); admittances and decisions come 2 weeks later
- Over 1/2 of Dec. 1 applicants apply for Johnson’s
- Finalists have been as many as 180 and as few as 130, but 150 is a target
- Scholars are 10% of incoming class (40-44)

Are all Johnson finalists automatically admitted to W&L?
Not automatically, but they say you can expect an acceptance in March, whether or not you are awarded the Johnson Scholarship. So Johnson finalists can consider it a “likely letter”.
