I was selected as a finalist and, though I know the travel expenses only include the student, do the parents sometimes fly in as well using their own money? Or do students travel on their own for the weekend
From what I heard on the October Zoom, the students are kept quite busy and wouldn’t have time with parent. (Students also stay with other students, not in a hotel.)
A reminder that emphasis is on the essay as most have great stats.
Some parents do travel with their kids but think of it as drop-off/pick-up. The kids’ time is very scheduled and there are no plans for parents. If you do travel to Lex there is hiking, shopping, etc to keep you busy while your kid is occupied.

My question is besides business/formal attire for the interview part, do the kids have to stay in formal attire most of their times there?
Can they be in khakis and polo (asking for S24) after the interview?
Oh wait, will the interview be multi-parts? If that’s the case, they might need time to change… 
D24 not a finalist. No surprise as she was accepted ED and did not apply for financial aid.

I asked my D about attire. She said kids wear business/professional attire for the interview. The rest of the time they can be more casual. Khakis and polo would be appropriate for class and other planned activities.

D24 was ED and absolutely can not wait. So excited - not a finalist and that’s ok! But because of the discussion above I wonder if they can release some information about the johnson finalists this year - how many come from the ED pool. I agree it seems like there is a relative imbalance, just seeing the data regarding the scholarship finalists and the students who attend. Would be interesting going forward for students who want to balance the risk/reward of johnson and admission, or for advisors, or just for overall transparency.

Hey everyone, just a quick question.
I’m looking at the guidebook for when I’ll have my Johnson Scholar interview, and it’s showing up as 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Is this my slot, or is this just the general timeframe for everyone to be having their interview? I’m not entirely sure at this point.

In the past, interviews were spread out over multiple slots. For example, my D was on an interview panel last year and her panel interviewed 3-4 kids.

Good Luck everyone at the interview! My son was selected as a Johnson Scholar last year. I was so impressed with the school, staff and Johnson Scholar advisors. He ended up at a different school but I felt he would of had an amazing experience at W&L.
