washington state CC to UC

does anyone have any experience with transfers from the Washington state community college system to the UC system? Wondering if anyone has run into any issues with credits or prerequisites not being met due to not having articulation agreements between the two establishments. My intended major is mechanical engineering; anything specific to that would be helpful.

I suspect you will have a difficult time of it, but others may state differently.

I previously (and regrettably) attended some WA CCs while I lived there (born and raised there) … but I attend a CCC now so I can’t really help. I haven’t heard of issues, but it might be best to just call the school you hope to transfer to and ask about certain classes.

The bigger problem will be the OOS issue. All you can do re articulations is try and match up course descriptions on assist. No one at the UC will commit to what will transfer in advance. The UCs only take junior transfers, BTW, just in case you didn’t know.

I also attended WA CC but moved to CA, established residency, attemded CA CC and am now applying to UC’s. That makes an enormous difference in admission chances. Most people won’t be willing to take the extra time to establish residency and do more CC before applying. Unless you’re exceptionally amazing in many ways you are already up against the odds as an OOS student. Additionally, the CA students you are competing a giants likely already have a direct articulation agreement that makes establishing their pre-req completion very simple. You may not have the classes available to you that are required.

I would never discourage anyone from pursuing their goals. I just want to explain why chances are slim. Additionally, engineering is selective if not impacted at most UC’s.

  • A giants= against. Silly phone.

Following @Bear87’s excellent point regarding articulation for OOS applicants, here is something that could be helpful to such students trying to determine course articulations: http://admissions.berkeley.edu/transfer_info. This database shows course equivalencies between Berkeley and several OOS institutions (at the least, most have courses to satisfy Berkeley’s RC requirement), something similar to assist.org for CCC students. Hope this helps someone.

@anothertransfer, just saw that yesterday or the day before, myself. Never knew it existed. Thx for posting!
