***WashU Class of 2020 RD Applicant Thread***

Yes if you got an invite. If you didn’t you can still visit on your own though.

@jukimgoals456 I signed up for the multicultural tour. Haven’t heard back from WashU yet about the ticket, but I am definitely going by myself. Why would you want to go with a parent??? Lol.

for spring preview, can anyone speak to the social component? is this the kind of thing where you go “out on the town” (i.e. partying) with your host or is it more laid-back? also, what is the normal duration of visits? Would it be weird to come on a sunday and leave on a tuesday and could I stay with a host for two nights?

cant speak for spring preview but when I went to multicultural, I ended up hanging out with a group of other prefrosh. We ended up just walking around exploring washu and the loop. I ended up not really talking to my host (I came back to the dorm really late at night like 1 in the morning and when I woke up he already left for class). For multicultural the normal duration is one night. Also for multicultural they have certain events planned out for prefrosh, im not sure if they have this for spring preview.

Got rejected from washu a couple days ago lol

Does everyone who got accepted receive the option of a travel grant?

I think so

If you got a travel grant, you’d either see it in your acceptance package or online.

Everyone is offered the travel grant.

@desie1 can you or someone else please tell me exactly where it says you got the travel grant? I got the package and didn’t see any mention of a free flight in it

if you are unsure if you got a travel grant I would call admissions on Monday to clarify. S still didn’t get the package but we saw the travel grant on his the portal. When you click travel plans on the acceptance on portal it should state whether you got a travel grant. I can tell you that he talked with a friend yesterday who had no idea he had the travel grant until my S told him where to look on the portal. not obvious unless looking for it. I don’t believe everyone was offered the travel grant. I think it depended how far away you lived, if you ever visited the school before or when your last visit was if you did. I think the admissions office would be helpful to clarify if you are not sure if you got the travel grant.

They told S for spring preview he could be assigned a host for 1 night if he stays on a Monday-Friday but they wont assign host for Sat or Sunday night.

@ihavefewECs Did you check your WUSTL Pathway? In your decision notification panel there should be a visit link that lets you pick between multicultural or spring preview. Should be somewhere on there.

@desie1 Really? When my D got accepted not every got a travel grant. Maybe they’ve changed this year?

AGAIN I think if there is any confusion about a travel grant and you don’t see it on your portal which other kids on this thread do, than call admissions on Monday and get clarification. I don’t believe everyone got travel grants but easy enough to call admissions and find out if you qualify for it.

@newjersey17 When my daughter was accepted two years ago (class of 2018), she was told that everyone got a travel grant. She had already visited there once a few months previously. (She didn’t take advantage of the free trip though because she decided on another college) What year was your daughter accepted? From what I understand, Wash U invests in flying all admitted students there (at least the US ones) because research shows that when students see the school and meet the other students, they have a higher likelihood of committing to Wash U. (so the Wash U yield increases) It wouldn’t make sense to not offer it to everyone - some people would be insulted if they were left out - and that wouldn’t make it likely for them to attend. But I’m definitely not an expert on Wash U, so I apologize if I’m mistaken.

Do I have to go through the whole process of planning the visit to see the travel grant is there? By the time I get to the calendar is it supposed to have already shown me that I have a travel grant? I plan to call Monday if I continue to not see it

hi. You can arrange your whole travel with the admission office. If you have a travel grant they will help coordinate this by telephone.

@momof2eagles yeah, that’s my plan. I’m just curious now but like I said if I’m unable to figure it out from looking online I will definitely call

@ihavefewECs
when I log onto my portal thingy, I click on:
“Visit us! Come see why Washington University is the place for you - click here to plan your visit.”

which takes me to a page that says:
“I want to visit during Spring Preview.”

When I click on that, it brings me to another page that says:
“Before you schedule your campus visit, please be aware of the following guidelines:
We are pleased to award you a travel grant to visit Washington University during Spring Preview 2016. This grant will provide your airfare within the United States.” and some other stuff.

Does yours not have that?

@midwestatheart and @mattyhan were you both offered scholarships and did not fill those out? I interviewed and visited as well and I’m trying to figure out if my lack of doing the app for Danforth negatively impacted my chance of admissions (since it may reflect a lack of interest in the school)
