S got back from admit overnight and had a wonderful time. How great of Wash u to pay for flights/food and cab vouchers for RD admits who live too far too drive. Since he flew in on a Sunday we had to be resourceful finding a host student as Wash U doesnt host on weekends except for special scholarship weekends. Really not that hard to do. we just emailed a religious org/club he thinks he wants to be involved in and they set him up with a student… He also looked at the main calendar on website and found plenty to do on Sunday on campus before the structured monday program and even had time to wander to Forest Park and the loop.
Narrowed down choices to several schools including Pomona , Swarthmore and Wash U. I think it will just come down to a “gut” feeling in the end and he really can’t go wrong with any of these great schools. I will feel a little sad if he doesnt choose Wash U but he still thinks a small LAC might be a better fit.
Good luck to all in making the final decision and know there is probably many right fits!
@TheWaffleMan149 On google, it’s the 2013 information. but on bing, it says 2016, which is 17.1%
@FireBallsDJ But if you scroll down and look at the sources, and click rankingsandreviews, that is a 2014 statistic
That is weird, but makes sense since I’ve seen other websites listing 17.1% as the 2014 rate.
@FireBallsDJ I just saw one site that said last year was 16%. I have not seen anything for this year though. I am just curious to see how it changed!
@momof2eagles They do host weekends other than scholarship ones. The multicultural days for RD admits, hosted by Washu, is next weekend
@TheWaffleMan149 I am guessing this year is higher, since they got 30,000+ applications previous years but not this year.
@TheWaffleMan149 btw what’s keeping you from choosing either Washu or UVa atm?
@FireBallsDJ Interesting. How many did they receive this year?
Well I haven’t visited WashU yet, so I can’t decide until I do that (this Sunday and Monday). I have a hard time thinking that I wouldn’t like it there, and I had an awesome time when I visited UVa too. Are you leaning towards one?
@TheWaffleMan149 I remember the letter saying “more than 29,000”
I will be there this weekend too! I mean, from an outsiders pov, I think WashU is better than UVa. UVa is still a top school, I have a friend who goes there, but I think WashU got more going for it with its supposedly awesome student life on top of the supportive environment with top professors (and students!)
@FireBallsDJ Oh yeah I remember. Strange!
That’s awesome. What major are you looking to pursue? I’m going for architecture!
@TheWaffleMan149 Biology. But I am also interested in BME. I am doing premed so I don’t want to over-do it. As far as I know, Washu’s biology program is a step above their engineering programs. Nice, architecture! Freshman year I wanted to be an architect lol, then I took an architecture class and yeah not for me.
@FireBallsDJ Very cool! Biology is pretty different from architecture so that is pretty interesting!
@FireBallsDJ yes you are right they do host for multicultural weekends in addition to scholarship weekend and they look like awesome opp to see the school. Unfort. S doesnt qualify for either, but Wash U still had great 1 day scheduling opp for RD admits who didnt qualify for the special weekends and including free plane tickets, cab vouchers and food vouchers. Just a little more difficult to find a host student if you are planning on staying over a weekend .
