WashU Teacher Evaluations?

Can I submit teacher evaluations for WashU via common app ONLINE? My teacher is typing all of my evaluations and would prefer to do it all electronically. The WashU teacher evaluation is the same thing as a letter of recommendation correct? Because I assume they use the common app teacher eval form. So can I send it online?

bump…

Your teacher(s) should print out the Common App Teacher Evaluation form and attach a letter of recommendation before mailing it to the admissions office. I do not believe you can submit these materials online.

I never really thought about this…I thought teacher recs/evalutaions were the same thing and submitted through the CommonApp, like the OP said. When I asked for recs, the teachers never asked me for stamped envelopes or anything like that, so isn’t everything just online?

Mine were typed by my teachers and then mailed in. It could be that I don’t remember the application process too well since it was a few years ago. I thought most universities prefer hard copies when it comes to recommendation letters.

Here is the [Teacher Evaluation form.](http://admissions.wustl.edu/SiteCollectionDocuments/1112_CA_Teacher_Evaluation.pdf) On the one hand, it seems pretty clear that it’s intended to be printed out, completed by you and the teacher and then mailed to Wash U. On the other hand, it says in bold letters at the top that you should only give the teacher stamped envelopes if you’re applying via mail. So I guess that would imply that you can now send it online. But if the online form is identical to that one, I’m not sure how you would have your teacher fill it out before sending it. Wouldn’t you need to give them your Common App password?

I don’t have a Common App account so I can’t check.

For many schools you can submit common app teacher evaulations electronically. I am just trying to figure out if WashU accepts this method. Other schools I am applying to are fine with sending the evaluations online (via common app). But WashU does not state anything about sending them online, which is what I would prefer to do.

All common app schools are supposed to accept them online. Not sure why Wash U would be any different?

They do say one recommendation is sufficient though.

^But there’s nothing wrong with submitting two, right? Or do they get mad when you send them extra things?

Two should be fine. If two teachers submit recommendations to the Common App, they will go to all Common App schools. My son submitted two last year through the Common App and was accepted. (He loves it there by the way.)

WashU encourages that you send as many as you think you need. Obviously though, there is a such thing as too many (when teachers repeat the same things about you over and over).

As far as I know WashU does accept them electronically. And I believe they said up to 5 recommendations are fine  just make sure that each recommendation displays a unique perspective of you as a student…you shouldn’t send 5 recs all saying the same thing about yourself (assumedly)

^How would one even know? It’s not like I can tell what my teachers write about me…

^Really? Our school has a sheet that we’re supposed to fill out specifically for the teachers. I’m sure that, if you asked nicely and gave a short list highlighting what you wanted them to talk about, your teachers would be willing to comply.

Although, I have to say, in my opinion, five teacher recs seems like overkill. If you’re going to send in that many, have a few be teachers, one be a counselor, another be a coach, another an activity sponsor, another a boss, etc., etc. But again, no need to drown the adcoms in repetitive praise. Just pick your few recs wisely and you’ll be fine.

I just send mine in through the common app. I don’t think you need to mail them.

i can have two teachers recs and thats fine right? a counselor recommendation is not required correct?

I’m pretty sure you can submit them via the Common App. If you go to the “School Forms” section for Washington University, it says: “This institution requires 1 and will accept up to a total of 5 teacher evaluations.” like someone said. Best of luck with your application! :)
