WashU vs. Davidson Gut Decision

Going in completely undecided for major, and while WashU makes a lot of sense logically, (a lot closer to me, could drive home rather than fly, seems to be more well-known, incredible food/dorms, etc.) after visiting both my gut tells me Davidson. Am I making a mistake? I know I don’t really have a bad option here…just wanted to hear some opinions. The admitted student day at Davidson was far superior compared to the WashU one so I am hoping my decision isn’t subconsciously based on this, but I do think that the general “feel” I get for each school is important. Money does not impact decision. Any thoughts?

I don’t know, but I’ll say this. WashU is not for the feint of heart, it’s one of the hardest to get in and hardest to stay in schools in the US.

Go with gut. What are your goals/major? Though frankly, regardless of what they are, I don’t think WashU and Davidson differ much in terms of opportunities.

The gut is usually a good indicator, especiallywhen the schools.are academically comparable. And with Davidson you get a lot of the little advantages that pretentious blowhards claim serious students wouldn’t dare care about but will affect you almost every day, like sightly better weather, the convenience of ha ving so many classes in 1 building, Div 1 sports, and not spending the rest of your life explaining that u didn’t go to school in DC or Seattle.

@moooop, fit and culture definitely should matter, but studies have shown that (unless you have SAD) climate/weather actually has zero correlation with how happy people are. Obvious, people in Chicago complain about winters more than people in LA, but weather doesn’t affect happiness. BTW, as someone who has lived in CA as well as places with harsh winters, anecdotally, I find that to be true.

Go with your gut. Davidson is a TERRIFIC, elite college. You won’t have different opportunities from there and if you like the vibe better, there’s no regret to have!
