WashU Waitlist. Any chance for other privates??

So I just got waitlisted from WashU in St. Louis three days ago. It was my private college admission decision and it has gotten me kind of worried because I applied to 9 private schools and WashU was statistically the easiest on to get into. I applied to Stanford, Harvard, Princton, USC, UChicago, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and Northwestern. After my waitlist from WashU do i have any chance to get into any of those schools?
Some of my stats are
SAT: 2290
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.4
3 Leadership positions
founder of a club, VP of another

Luckily i have gotten into a few safeties such as UCSD and UCI(Honors) and im still waiiting for UCLA and Berkeley but after being waitlisted at WashU do i even have a chance at those private schools?

If you can get a waitlist at WashU, you have a chance at any of the other schools listed. I suspect you will get into at least, one, but if you don’t UCSD or UCI-Honors are certainly great options.

Since you’ll know in three weeks, now is a bit late to worry.

Why is UCSD a safety? California does not have guaranteed admissions right?

Most of the schools on your list are high profile and they would be very hard to predict. Some of them consider “shown interest” and it could make a difference if you visited them.

@texaspg What do you mean?? UCSD was considered a safety school becaucse it was one of the weaker schools i applied to and I knew i could get in, which I did. So, I’m sorry i dont know what youre asking there.

As far as “showing interest”, I have visited Stanford and USC, and i also interviewed with Harvard, Princton, and Northwestern.

I’m actually in the same position. Would like to hear from others as well.

Fortunately you did get admitted to UCSD and UCI. It’s impossible to know if you will get in to any of the others–your stats are decent but are your ECs, and recs outstanding enough?? Only time will tell. But it is a good time to “fall in love with your safety”, just in case. Good luck.

UCSD and UCI are now safeties for the OP since s/he has already been admitted, assuming that they are affordable, and s/he is either admitted to his/her desired major, or his/her desired major is not a restricted one.

However, at the time of application, UCSD should probably not be relied on as a safety. Low match for some students perhaps, but not a 100% guarantee of admission (and some majors may be more selective than the school overall).

@ucbalumnus - As you know, the interpretation of safety does not come in after the fact or else every school one got admitted to becomes a safety. My question is exactly what your statement at the end says - was there a 100% guarantee based on some unknown reason that it was a safety for OP. We have the rules in place in Texas that someone can not be denied if they are in top 7% at any state school and I didn’t believe that was the case in California.

@onemanshow - UCSD and UCI are ranked in top 40 and not that far from USC or UCLA in ranking or stature irrespective of what you might hear on CC. So considering them safeties at the time of your application because they are weaker is not the way to interpret safety. If you go purely by stats, all the schools you applied to probably have a lower average for stats compared to yours but they are admitting students based on certain value systems and not just numbers.

Stanford has zero weight for interest and visiting USC as a a California native may not be considered a big deal. Harvard, Princeton and Columbia may not give any weight for interest either. I suspect Johns Hopkins, NW and WUSTL give some weight to interest, visiting etc. Not certain about Chicago.

With those schools there is really no way to tell. They are reaches for most everyone. Rest assured that you have a good, affordable place to go with your current admissions.
