Watauga Global Community at Appalachian State

A few days ago, I received an email from Appalachian State including an invitation to join the school’s Watauga Global Community. Is this invitation something that is extended only to select applicants, or does the WGC approach all App State applicants? I read that the WGC admits only 90 freshmen each year, so it’s obviously a competitive program. But I would like to get a sense of just how many applicants I would be competing with.

Also, are there any Appalachian State students in the program (or who know a good deal about it) that could tell me more about Watauga? I’ve heard some mixed reviews of it so far, in regards to the college experiences of its members. I also know that the community offers many courses that are alternatives to typical general education classes. If I were to decide to transfer to another university, how easily would the credits from my Watauga courses transfer?

I have no personal knowledge of the program, but their website makes it clear that it is available to all admitted students.

Thank you for your quick response. I was indeed aware that all first-year students are eligible to apply. But I am unsure of whether only select applicants are actually sent a formal invitation from the head of the community (indicating that I may have a better chance of admission to the WGC than most others) or if it is standard procedure to send this invitation to all applicants at Appalachian State.

I have put forth this question to various sources, but none seem to know the answer. Anyway, thank you again for your input.
