Have you bought a twentysomething male a watch that he loves? What brand? There must be a million different choices!

Hey, maybe he’d like the ones that are made in Detroit, with every part made in America. Pretty cool, and great for the economy.

An awful lot of twentysomethings don’t wear watches… they have their phones with them 24x7 and don’t feel they need them. Just something to consider.

My kids haven’t worn watches in about 10 years because they had their phones. However, I think more and more twentysomethings are now wearing watches - especially the older ones settling into careers. We were at a family wedding a few weeks ago and much of the wedding party and assorted other cousins and friends (all in their mid to late 20s) were wearing watches. My 25 year old son later bought one off a street vendor. I’d like to get him a decent (but not too pricy) watch, so I welcome advice as well.

My twenty-something son loves watches. He has bought himself a few, and enjoys the nice one he received from his grandparents. Another idea might be nice sunglasses. Our son was thrilled with the designer ones his gf gave him (though I suppose maybe it was because his gf bought them…)

Pizzagirl started a thread several months ago on this topic. Maybe you can search for it.
Depends a lot on your budget. TAG is popular with young men. Lower price point is Fossil.

Oh, he has asked for a watch. : )

Try to find out more about the type he wants. This is the season for gifts and hints. Find out what type of watch in general- digital, metal, sports, dressy… You can even ask for examples of types he likes.

If he’s aiming for more of the practical/sporty/digital watch, I got one from the Timex Expedition series. It’s got all kinds of alarms, stopwatch, timer, and even supports a second timezone (which is useful studying abroad!). Quite well priced, too - got mine for <$30.

Some of the best quality, durability, and technology out there in a mid-price range watch, and something that he (and more importantly, his friends) will consider VERY cool. It’s ties to “the watch the military guys who fast rope from a helicopter are wearing” will only add to his “coolness” factor.

Your welcome.

I think it’s better to let him pick out the watch himself–give him a price range, and go with him to look. Otherwise, there’s a good chance he won’t wear it. (This advice goes double if you’re considering buying a man a wallet.) At least, buy one he can exchange and tell him he’s welcome to do so.

We got H a Dakota Torch a few years ago. It wasn’t cheap although it was on sale at the time so it was reasonable. H is extremely hard on things as a landlord, but the watch has held up really well. It gets charged on a charger every 6 months or so and has no battery replacement issues.

We are not allowed to pull our phones out at work in patient care areas. My watch battery is dead and it’s been driving me crazy-I keep flicking my naked wrist over to see the time. I realize now how many times a day I check my watch.

You might want to decide if it’s going to be a “work” watch, or a “weekend” watch. The design will be different–think suit vs. jeans!

My son received his father’s watch when Mr. Ellebud inherited his father’s watch. Same brand, one with gold. One daughter uses her watch(s) as jewelry, the other really wears hers. I have several watches. I always wear a watch…

S1, who’s 26yo, wears a watch everyday. In fact, when his first Fossil watch died, he bought another one. He said his wrist feels naked without one now.

On the other hand, S2, who’s 23yo, used to wear a watch before he had a cell phone, but he lost 2 watches in that time period and has never requested another one.

Check out Tissot, classic, simple swiss design and reasonably priced for a first watch. It’s the adult version of a Swatch watch, something my kids grew up wearing.

Watches are kind of like perfume, more branding built into the price than actual component value.
