Watch "Glee"

I thought this was one of the best episodes. Interesting storyline and great songs.

I have been turned off by Glee and have barely watched…but I thought this was an excellent episode…

One of the best episodes I’ve seen in a long time. Very well done.

I tired hard to read everyone’s shirts, but I missed Arties. What did it say? And did Puck’s shirt say “I’m with stupid with a down arrow”? I thought Brittany’s was a riot and then the one she did for Santana…classic Brittany!

Artie’s shirt said, “Four Eyes”.

I’m happy with this week’s theme, and while there were some things I really disliked (Quinn’s storyline was a bit too unrealistic) I’m really, really glad they handled Karofsky and Emma so well this episode.

This is fun!
ditto what was said above; great episode…

last week was really disappointing; so glad this was better…

Kurt singing “As if we never said goodbye” was a joy! What a great song and a great performance.

The whole nose job thing ****ed me off. I know of so many people whose perspective on life/self esteem was changed by a nose job, so for Glee to make it like it was for vanity alone really irked me.

Yes, incredible performance. I don’t recall ever hearing his voice sound so beautiful.

What ticked me off about the t-shirts was Lauren and Mercedes. Let’s get real: Lauren’s issue is that she is obese. It was clear from her pictures that she was always the “fat kid.” The whole point of her character is that Puck is interested in her DESPITE her weight, and she carries it off to some degree by having a supposed “bad attitude.”

Mercedes’ issue is that she is overweight and not particularly glamorous. As a person who has struggled with weight for most of their life I know whereof I speak, and it bothers me that they would be so dishonest.

I don’t think their issue is weight - they fit in to the glee club and perform as well as any of the others, so I would disagree with that assessment.
I think Lauren’s problem * is that* she is abrasive. She doesn’t come off as sweet or easy to like.
I know people who have been chubby in high school and of a more “normal” weight once they got through adolescence & I think it is refreshing not to assume that the chubby girls problem is that they don’t look like Barbie.

I also think Mercedes is pretty although I don’t necessarily believe that she doesn’t have a weave  & it doesn’t make sense that she would hate that she doesn’t have one.

I liked this episode especially the scenes with Kurt & Karlofsky.
& the one with Finn & Quinn was very sweet as well.

Trust me, em, the fact that Lauren is FAT, not chubby, is indeed her problem. Her attitude is what enables her to carry it off while maintaining her fierce pride. Compare her to the trio of loser “fat girls” who they showed this time. When Quinn couldn’t believe that Lauren would have the nerve to run for Prom Queen, it wasn’t because of the attitude. No one would be surprised that Santana–a gorgeous girl with at least as bad an attitude–would run, because Santana has the qualifications: she’s slim and pretty.

They “fit into” the glee club because the glee club is supposedly a place for weirdos and misfits. I say “supposedly” because of course, almost all of the kids in the glee club are actually extremely physically attractive–including Rachel  – and many of them have qualifications that would in reality place them high in the HS pecking order: football players and cheerleaders.

Mercedes is not a beauty. That is why Mercedes has never had a boyfriend, unlike ALL of the other girls. It is okay for a non-handsome GUY to have a gorgeous girlfriend or wife on TV–Artie, for example, Jim Belushi, countless others–but you will never see the reverse.

That is the way in which the Puckerman/Lauren thing is the truly ground-breaking plotline. Puckerman likes Lauren precisely because of her “bad attitude,” and in spite of her physical appearance.

I think the Puck/Lauren relationship is believable- ( & I thought his t-shirt was pretty apt for 99.9 % of young men- if you get my drift)

I don’t know why they haven’t paired Mercedes up with someone, I disagree it is because she is round- it has been my observation that some cultures admire a womanly shaped woman more than middle class white america does. Take the Hispanic & AA communities for two. When I had an AA boyfriend in my younger days ( he was wild for my red hair), he was always trying to fatten me up- & I was not too skinny!

If it is believable that Artie, who not only wears * nerd glasses* but is a paraplegic to boot, has a * cheerleader* girlfriend, why wouldn’t it be believable that Mercedes has a boyfriend?
Besides neither of my girls had “boyfriends” in high school & my oldest is very pretty while her sister is frankly a knockout- I don’t take lack of a boyfriend to mean anything at all.

I also liked Kathleen Quinlan as the therapist- I appreciated that they tried to increase knowledge of mental disorders & I appreciated that the therapist shared something of her own history, something my own psychiatrist does not do at all, even though I have been going to him for about 6 years.

So we have Santana & Karofsky , Puck/Lauren & Finn & Quinn going for prom royalty- who do you think will win? ( my daughters schools didn’t have prom royalty although my oldest did wear a tiara  )

Don’t get me wrong, I think it would be perfectly reasonable for Mercedes to have a boyfriend. She’s a great girl. It’s just that in TV-land, the average, pudgy guy can always have a gorgeous female partner, but not the reverse. I just thought of another one: King of Queens. No way in hell would the TV people ever have reversed THAT equation.

BTW, I certainly didn’t say that the idea that Artie has a cheerleader GF is believable! It isn’t. But again, in TV-land, the less-than-attractive guy can always have a hot GF. (Although Brittany is such an unusual person that she just sort of carries it off. ) Look at Karofsky. He’s not exactly an oil painting himself. But no one blinks at the idea that Santana would be his GF, except for those who know she’s gay, of course.

Puck/Lauren is literally the only example I can think of.

I’m not an expert on prom stuff. I never went to one, and neither did my S. But I think that Puck/Lauren are out of the running after the Lucy Caboosey episode. Finn and Quinn seem like shoo-ins to me. But anything can happen in the world of Glee. Maybe Kurt and Mercedes will run! :)

I loved Kathleen Quinlan, too.

I liked the episode (Brittany is my favorite and “Lebanese” was hysterical), but I hope now they can move on to other themes. Does every single show have to be about the struggles of gay kids? I like Kurt, but surely there can be other show themes.

I think Mercedes is VERY pretty. Way prettier than Rachel with her nose (I was also rooting for the nose job)! Why can’t we have a Mercedes storyline? Maybe she’ll “come out” just to get some air time.

I had no idea (until I got my undergrad alumni magazine yesterday) that Jane Lynch and I went to the same undergrad and even overlapped. I saw one of the productions the magazine mentioned, and you’d think I would have remembered a 6’ tall actress but I don’t. H overlapped with her for 3 years and he was even in shows and doesn’t remember her. (D said we should at least act like we remember her!)

Episode 21: Funeral

What the heck does THAT mean?

People Magazine this week about the Funeral episode: "“News comes of a death, although it surely won’t be Lea Michele.”

^^yes, there was discussion in an AOL article that “someone will die” tonight…can’t even imagine…
