Watch it when your kid changes address!

After wondering about multiple missing credit card and bank statements (but oddly no missing phone bills), I asked our letter carrier if anything was going on. Yup. Either the kid or the US Post Office where she is in grad school failed to indicate that only she had moved. The letter carrier promised to fix it, and that the not-daughter mail would be “recalled” and should land in my mailbox soon. Fingers crossed.

Happened to us when S1 with same first name moved after staying with us for a while. Everything went with him, then when they tried to correct it nothing did. That was easer, we just bundled and sent it.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up. We’ll be going through this with two of our kids within the next year.

Don’t rely on the post office to forward mail. Make sure that every addressed is changed directly for every credit card, bank, utility, etc…

Our nightmare was when the state required all houses and businesses to renumber their addresses for 911 purposes. Ack! Besides having to update addresses for all our contacts, we had to buy new business letterhead.

The only positive was that the dirt road to our cabin had to be named, and we got to pick the name. We named it Wood Hollow, because that’s what both our sons’ names mean in other languages.

@Singersmom07 - Last year DD and I talked through the forward/toss/hold for later whenever she did get mail here. Probably should have kept up that policy for this year too.

Make sure you all sign up for informed delivery too.

@Sybylla - thanks for that suggestion!

First batch of formerly missing mail arrived today - three bills with yellow postal forwarding labels that read “Unable to forward/for review”. Now to see what else turns up!

You might want to sign up for electronic delivery of bank statements and bills as well. Then you don’t have to rely on paper mail.

@calmom - I have logins for all of the regular bills and can check them online. I like the paper statements so that I can double-check my math and verify that everything went where it was supposed to.
