Big day for sports today. Such an adjustment with few people watching in person but some still pretty exciting stuff, some stuff less so.
Hockey-Very disappointed the Pittsburgh Penguins got knocked out early.
Today-just caught a little of these things-
Golf -I like Dustin Johnson so happy he’s doing well…
Indianapolis 500- not a big fan but caught the end- disappointing , anticlimactic end to the whole thing.
NBA Basketball -very exciting finish to the Dallas-LA Clippers game. I loved it, even watching from home. And I don’t really follow or root for either team but I thought it was an exciting, emotional OT win!
Champions League Final – such a glimpse of normalcy to be able to watch soccer on tv! The fan noise was apparently piped in, I think I heard the noise was live from the crowds watching in Paris and Munich, respectively, but I’m not sure about that. Apart from not seeing shots of the crowd and people with their faces painted the colors of their team and the shots of collective groans on missed shots etc, it didn’t feel a lot different than watching a pre-covid match on tv.
DS and I have been watching the soccer games for the past two weeks and I think they often simulate the fan noise and they actually do a pretty decent job. I agree that it was not too much different than with actual fans but I am sure it was for the players.
Pens are out, Pirates stink, the Indy 500 stopped being the Indy 500 when Tony George screwed it up decades ago, and I’ve never followed basketball. So I haven’t been watching much of anything.
I’ve actually found myself following along to various England test matches on BBC and/or crincinfo. I’m not sure what that says.
Another Champions Leage Final watcher here! I’ve been watching soccer for months now, especially the Premier League. I have no opinion on the fake crowd noise. I could take it or leave it. But I sm SO happy to be able to watch professional soccer!
Well, I live in Slam Diego! The Padres set a MLB record this week hitting 4 grand slams in 4 days, and then 5 in 6 days. It’s fun to have baseball back.
I have been wearing my Bruins face masks when I leave home. At least in terms of watching games on TV I do not think that we are losing anything with the “bubble” that NHL hockey is in.
Given the Red Sox’s struggles I think that it may be merciful that we have a short baseball season.
We’re huge Philly sports fans. We have been flipping between baseball, basketball and hockey on most evenings (although we just lost basketball with the Sixers eliminated.) Glad to have games to watch, it’s something the 3 of us here at home all bond over. Not overly bothered by the lack of crowd, it’s different but better than nothing!
Since baseball is only playing with a fan sound track you can hear the players a bit more. Yesterday a ball was missed and you can hear a player swear loud and clear. The announcer just said “Guess, he didn’t like that!”
Judging from the noise I heard coming from the man cave yesterday during the Mavs game, I guess the sports are still enjoyable. Better than nothing, anyway.
@Nrdsb4 Not surprised you heard some noise! The end of that game, a buzzer beater in OT, was very exciting! It was actually the game that made me think to start this thread.
How exciting though for a no hitter! He is now in a fairly rarified crowd in baseball pitching, regardless of having the fans in the stands not there… Too bad it was against my team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, but I’ll get over it! :). Congratulations to him ,his family, and his team!
