Watson or Zagorsky for Ec102? which one is better?

Zagorsky wants a paper on a randomly assigned country’s economy. Some people got easy countries and wrote great papers, others got random tiny African countries with absolutely nothing interesting about them and got bad grades.

Watson’s slides won’t make much sense to you if you skip lectures. He doesn’t follow the textbook at all. There is a problem set each week (10 total, 2 lowest scores are dropped). Two midterms - the lower score is dropped. The problem sets, midterms and the final are open-ended questions and the grading is ridiculously strict.

Getting a good TA is what matters the most in my opinion. The discussions were where I really got to understand everything.

the grading i can deal with it, but which one do you think is a better professor? which one can teach the subject better?

I haven’t seen Zagorsky’s lectures, so it’s hard to judge, but I don’t remember any of my friends complaining about the lectures either.

Watson is indeed really intelligent and knowledgeable in economics. If you get distracted in a lecture it’s easy to lose track of what’s going on. If you’re unlike me and don’t have problems concentrating, Watson’s can be really interesting to listen to.

EC102 is a joke anyway. Don’t worry about it.

I really don’t have any experience with Zagorsky. I have taken EC101 and EC102 with Watson though and am an Economics major, I’d recommend taking the class with him. As long as you plan on attending lecture pretty regularly, doing problem sets, and studying a little, you should do well. For an introductory class, he makes it pretty interesting. I feel like it prepared me well for my Intermediate Macro class this semester.
