Way under word limit - problem?

For Brown and other schools, there are supplemental essays in which they ask you to answer in no more than 500 words. If I can say what I want to say in, for example, 150 words, is that a problem?

If you think it’s a good response the length isn’t a problem. I’ve definitely heard of people getting in with short supplemental essays.

Just don’t try to be original and write a one-word essay (unless, of course, they ask for it). That’s so overdone.

My D just read me a 70-word essay that helped get somebody into Yale. Moreover, it was included in this book on writing great college essays. We thought it was lame, unimaginative, and amateurish. Shows how much we know. Apparently the adcom at Yale loved it.

I think significantly under 500 words is fine, as long as the essay is good.

^ I think what you wrote shows the multitude of ways an essay can be taken.

Thanks for the reassurance.
