<p>Son also wanted to learn to play golf and tennis since most of his college buddies played often. So while he was taking some summer clases at our local university (upper division biochem, genetics, micro) classes not readily offered at his 4 year school he took golf and tennis from their PE department. Once you have a certain amount of units the school does not charge more for extra units (state school).</p>
<p>So he was able to take beginning golf, intermediate and advanced along with tennis. The kayaking class conficted with his labs otherwise he would have done that as well. I found clubs and bag at a garage sale and he is a happy camper who can now golf and play tennis with his fellow college alum. The school didn’t charge any additional fees for greens fees or court time so it was just included with his summer tuition…which was paid for by his 4 year school! (they will pay if they don’t offer the classes themselves…most don’t know this until they attend and matriculate and then just ask!)</p>
<p>I have seen my local groupon offer some packages for golf lessons. Maybe yours as well?</p>
<p>He’s a freshman in high school. The problem is there aren’t that many indoor options here in the winter. I found one that is $200 per month for one hour a week, paid monthly, which isn’t that terrible. I just want to cut back elsewhere to show my husband that I’m not being out of control. Which I never am. I am incredibly cheap.</p>
<p>$200 x a couple of months sounds like a lovely gift to find budget room for. Many of us do/did the same for music lessons, that extra performing group, a new case, etc.</p>
<p>Btw, was at my library this week and so delighted to see so many people there. The local branch has responded to the digital age by upping their customer service, the programs they offer, etc. So glad to see that, considering the budgetary woes.</p>
<p>S2 takes golf lessons year-round with his best friend. The local pro is great, and the boys are in a small group who has played together for quite a while. They are on the course in good weather and indoors (putting and chipping) in the winter.</p>
<p>I have found a great option for clubs - gigagolf.com. I’ve ordered single clubs, you customized them depending on certain body measurements and the level and characteristics of the player’s golf game. They are very good at helping you through the various options. These are very high-quality clubs and the cost is much less than buying name brand clubs (this company does not advertise or sponsor pros, and they don’t provide any free clubs to pros).</p>
<p>I am naturally good at saving because I HATE shopping (especially for clothes), pedicures, manicures, haircuts, and I dye my own hair so I don’t have to spend the $ or time in the salon. I online shop for many things now (see above) which also completely eliminates impulse buying.</p>
<p>I still eat and drink out a fair amount and travel moderately, but that’s about it.</p>

<p>Zooser, what about indoor golf lessons at Chelsea Piers? They shut down for several days in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, so maybe they would be encouraged to attract new members with a discount?</p>
<p>Mom2, we seem to have a local competition, jokingly, how low can you go- one says their thermostat is at 68, another at 65. Another at 58. And we’re northeast. One oil delivery can exceed the cost of running a few space heaters, as needed, or the rooms with individual elec heat built in- for the whole winter. The “chill” is only bad the first season you try it. It’s ridiculous. I think of palm trees a lot, in winter. Glad to have an office. Glad to have that library. (I make it sound worse than it is.)</p>
<p>I bought both the kids electric blankets (I already have one) and cranked the heat down. They are surviving, I just don’t see them running around in shorts and tshirts anymore either.</p>

<p>ha ha…and my H probably hates hearing me say that, too. I’m not one to “nag” my H (maybe I should!), but dang, our electric bill is super high and turning up the heat just makes it worse. One night he was laying ON TOP of the bed covers, complained that he was cold, and instead of getting under the covers, he got up to turn up the heat!!! What the heck??? I probably sounded like Chris Rock then as well. :)</p>

<p>Is there a link to the free movies for Amazon Prime? I have never done any watching on my computer but I am curious about this and I have a Prime account.</p>
