We are at our worst as a society when preying on the weak has become entertainment, and morality and justice are mislaid. No sane person will defend an assault on a developmentally disabled student. The circumstances of the wrongdoing concern immorality, not race. Like the African-American community activist in Chicago said earlier, let the justice system deal with these ravaging nihilists as prescribed. They will fully deserve the punishment they will get.
Such a horrible thing for that young man. Depraved is the right word. Were they doing some kind of speed type drugs like Meth? I wondered because apparently a neighbor called the cops to complain about the noise, and the two women allegedly knocked her door down. Is that actually true?
It just boggles the mind, both the crime and the fact that they thought posting a video to Facebook would be a good idea. Posting the video shows that their moral compass is so far off track that they thought others would be impressed rather than horrified by their crime.
Absolutely disgusting. Unfortunately, persons with disabilities are the demographic more likely to experience violence than anyone else. I can’t imagine how little regard one must have for life in order to do something like this.
Don’t know if it’s true, but one report I read said that one of the females expressed frustration on FB that more people weren’t posting their admiration for the act. I went back to find that source, but I can’t remember where I read it.
Why? What they did was a crime, regardless of the motive. What extra benefit is there from calling it a hate crime? What motives are more evil than others? That’s a road I don’t want to start down.
The reason for federal civil rights laws was that local prosecutors were not enforcing violent crimes against minorities, so the federal government created laws so that they could prosecute “violations of civil rights.” That does not seem to be an issue here. Not because of the race of the victim or perpetrators, but because the police and prosecutors are doing their jobs.
That’s why I’m against it. I don’t care if you beat me up because of my age, or sex, or race, or because I parked in the spot you shoveled, or because I married your ex, or because I drink, or because you drink, or because your church says my beliefs are wrong, or any other reason. The crime is beating me up, not thinking bad thoughts about me.
Yes, I believe it adds a significant amount of time. I have no idea why someone would want to pretend this was not a hate crime, when it seems quite probable that it was. However, I’m all for letting the prosecutors do their jobs.
Romani, sadly you are correct. People whom had trouble with their mobility or were actually infirm were among the targeted victims in that heinous ‘Knockout Game’ nonsense a couple of years ago.
I wasn’t asking if they were on meth because that would imply mitigating circumstances, but because it might explain how a pretty small woman was able to break a door down.
