We Are Not Alone (NASA Discovers 7 Planets That Could ...

… sustain life. Only 175,000 light years away. Practically next door. Does anyone know how to post pictures of martians?

Right now that distance is ridiculous … but I firmly believe that at some point we’ll discover a phenomena that moves many orders-of-magnitude faster than light. It probably won’t happen before I kick the bucket but I’d at least like to read a paper that points to such a phenomena before the bucket tips. I’m not smart enough to figure it out.

Will it happen before we render our own planet unable to sustain life?

Silly question. We aren’t going to “render our own planet unable to sustain life” (which apocalyptic religion/cult do you belong to?).

Yes, life is remarkably persistent. Non-human life will survive long after we’ve made it inhabitable for humans

It really would be a feat if Martians made it all the way to one of these planets.

The seven planets are 40 light years away.

Mogay, phone home?

(<>…<>) So - travel preferences - warp drive or worm hole? Would you pay an extra charge for seat selection and checked luggage?

Tesseract.

Yes, only 40 light years away. If I left now, I could conceivably make it there before I’m a centenarian! The close proximity is what makes it so fascinating to me, as well as the fact that rather than looking for planets revolving around a sun like ours, they are looking at dwarf stars, which are much cooler but could be warm enough for nearby planets to support life.

I agree. This stuff is just nuts to even talk about. There is no way we will be traveling there for quite some time. If ever. Humans are a disaster to this planet. We are a horrible creature. The cost would be prohibitive.

No, you couldn’t. Not unless you’re traveling at light speed.

Gogole got out a really cute doodle on this.

^ hahaha. I just viewed it. Thanks for sharing. Made me laugh.
