We are the Peace Corps

The west coast is well represented- especially the Pacific northwest.

I was surprised that my daughter’s little tiny school was not on the list. There are at least 8 current alums who are in the PC…and a lot of RPCV.

A new way to retire?

Inspired by JFK’s 2 a.m. speech on the steps of the Michigan Union in Ann Arbor and a petition by 1000 Michigan students willing to serve abroad, the Peace Corps was born. Happy to see Michigan students still very well represented in serving.

The above was from a feature article from the Santa Clara magazine this past fall. What am I missing? This school has had a LOT of PC volunteers.

Rankings are calculated based on fiscal year 2011 data as of September 30, 2011, as self-reported by Peace Corps volunteers.

The rankings are self reported- It does seem I have seen Santa Clara mentioned before.

Fall 2011 Archives - Santa Clara Magazine;

Gotta wonder why they use “self reported” information. The PC has a HUGE database that I would imagine includes the educational info about PCV and RPCV at least up to the point when they were IN the PC.

My daughter likely did not self report…gotta wonder if she was even asked?

My former boss is in his 60s and is living his dream in the Peace Corp. He has never been happier, and he brings years worth of business and life experience. I envy him, especially since he landed in Tonga, which looks like paradise as I shovel snow.

The raw numbers are misleading…what would make sense is rate per number of undergraduates.

DD was one of the subjects of a newspaper article about her service, so I guess she self-reported.

W&M is the smallest school in the top 10 among mid sized schools, and 3rd among mid sized schools in per capita volunteers.
