We are the terrible, horrible, no good..

The local Christian school was too liberal? They’re stone cold crazy.

Probably, but freedom of religion cuts both ways.

And, again, you can’t get a restraining order just because you don’t like your neighbors!

As for child protective services, a call would be appropriate not because one doesn’t approve of the family’s home-schooling curriculum (or lack thereof), but because the kids (down to age 7) are running around the neighborhood unsupervised. That’s a safety issue for the younger ones.

Isn’t that what we all did back in the Dark Ages??

Clearly if they are breaking into the neighbor’ homes a little supervision is called for. It’s probably beyond the scope of Child Protection Services however.

Get a security system if you don’t already have one; you’re probably next on the list to be burglarized. The kids were probably kicked out of school if they ever went at all.
And carry a magic wand with you to put a hex on them next time!

I would do Druid dances in the back yard and give them Wicca literature. Wear black whenever you can.

Of course you were right to call the police. How would you know their kids were in the house. I also agree with letting your dog out and call the police on their barking dogs.

I also love nosy neighbors.

Well…

Apparently my neighbor’s sons and their friends are in big trouble. Police have linked them to 4 burglaries in our general area. A search warrant found a game system that had been stolen in my neighbors’ house…oldest son said a friend had given it to him when he got a new one. Lots of cash was found in his room as well.

I have had no further confrontations with my neighbors. I think right now they are keeping a very low profile! The homeschooled kids that are generally running around the neighborhood all day have not been out at all.

We are not allowing our dog out alone, we keep our house locked up with the alarm system on, and I make sure I walk my dog with neighbors so I am not alone.

I am so glad I could vent here!

Congratulations on solving the neighborhood burglary problem!

These people are nuts!

You did the right thing. It’s not your job to try to figure out “faces” of trespassers in someone’s home.

The neighbors are now humiliated after being confronted with evidence that their kids are part of a gang of roving marauders, and weren’t engaging in some harmless prank that OP got their kids in trouble over.

I doubt you will have any more trouble with them.

I’d lay even odds that they will be moving soon.

This is clearly your fault and you should feel terribly guilty.

Oh wait. You are actually a hero, particularly if you think about what might have happened if your elderly neighbor had walked in on them alone and unaware.

^^ what zoosermom said.
Hero.

boysx3- there is a house up the road from me for sale. Would you please move in? I will help you move and paint!

vlines, love your suggestion. I will second, and top it with anything OP requests.

boysx3, I don’t know what religion your neighbors so strongly believe in. In the religion I follow, we’re cautioned to worry about the log in our own eye before lecturing our neighbor about the speck in his eye. It’s terrible that you had to suffer because of these folks.

OP, the house next door to me is currently vacant and for sale. Do you like the Wine Country? Please buy it.

HEY! I’ve got dibs - post #14.

:P

Ooh, wine country (claps hands together with delight). If she doesn’t want it, can I buy it? I promise, I’m a nice neighbor also. :D

How I wish any and all of you were my neighbors!

Sounds like the sheltering they are doing with their kids, not letting them see a deck of cards, etc. is doing wonders for their moral development :stuck_out_tongue: . You did the right thing. I am sure your neighbors are very thankful. Hopefully you can get back to your normal life soon.

Mortification to the neighbors! They really should move away after this.
