Be careful what you wish for, all you CC’ers with vacant homes in your vicinity!

boysx3, I’d like you to be my neighbor too but I’m glad you prevailed.

The thought of what could have happened to your elderly friend is truly frightening. Three cheers to you, boys3x, for being a good friend and good neighbor.

So glad you have a both security system and a dog. Those little hooligans are probably ticked off at the person who rained on their parade. Please be careful. OTOH, if anything happens to your house I’m sure I know the first place the police would look for suspects. Thank heavens you took care of your elderly neighbor!

I also echo building a fence between your properties so you can have peace in your own backyard. I also agree that the kids were probably kicked out of school, and the “liberal” story is a cover.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to antagonize them though. I think your heroic action to save your elderly neighbor, which ended up blowing the cover on the neighborhood burglary ring, is more than enough of a last laugh!

I hope that someone explains what witness tampering is to these kids.

No witness tampering necessary. The cops caught them in the act.

Please be careful. Who knows what these nutjobs are capable of, especially if they are religious fanatics who see themselves as fully justified in all kinds of actions that rational people would reject. You might want to put up security cameras and TELL THEM that you have done so. Hopefully that would restrain them from retaliation.

I hope for your sake that they really do move.

I entertained my family at tonight’s dinner with your story. It has it all: drama, outrage, frustration, humor, and danger (and devil worship). And a great comeuppance for the weirdly self righteous. My group was pleased at the outcome. I hope that things remain better for you.

I’m so looking forward to this weekend. S2, the one accused of “witchcraft” is coming in later today for Rosh HaShanah. He has invited a couple of his friends who are in graduate school here in Cincinnati to spend the weekend with us.

So tonight I will make a nice Shabbat dinner.

And tomorrow night we will do Havdalah in our back yard! And then I guess we will go to shul on Sunday night and repent for being such bad people.

I get to spoil S2 until Tuesday night. S3 is staying in DC and hosting a brunchy-lunchy on Monday, and S1 and his wife are spending the holiday with her family.

For those who want to see what Havdalah is, there is a nice rendition on youtube–just look for Havdalah Moishe House–

Happy New Year. We are going to stay over on Monday at our Chicago place.

tsdad, I know you live/work in Madison. Have you bought a place in Chicago for weekends? We are thinking of that as well, so we could see family more often. What area did you buy in?

Sometimes I think hyper-religious people are so worried about certain things–not exposing kiddies to the “wrong” ideas, what they wear, not letting them “see a deck of cards”–all external things, that they seem to ignore honesty, integrity, humility, the golden rule! Where I grew up, the preachers’ kids were always the h*** raisers who got in trouble with the law, got drunk, the girls got pregnant at much higher rates than other people.

I agree that the kids probably got kicked out of the school. And you absolutely did the right thing.

boyx3, forget Chicago, just come to Madison. Nice, tolerant city.

:)

The Moishe House video is terrific! Shabbat shalom and l’shanah tovah!

QUICK!! Turn on your tv or tivo it. ABC is doing a bit on “nasty neighbors” on their “what would you do” bit. Maybe you’ll see the religious wingnuts!

Oh wait-- now they say its about having famous neighbors and what a PITA that is. Different kind of problem neighbor…

OK-- O am 0 for 2. Its 20/20 on nasty neighbors. On now.

OP, you’d be sooooo happy to watch this show! 20/20, ABC right now: the show is all about nasty neighbors (EST)

Imagine having that neighbor, who called it her “life’s mission” to harrass her neighbors? So glad she (Ms. Cristianson?) was moved right into jail.

OP is probably in temple right now.
