We are the terrible, horrible, no good..

Your stories are eerily similar to those of some friends of mine. They are both artists, and when they moved into their new house they painted their living room red. The bat-****-crazy lady across the street decided that that was a sign my friends were devil worshippers. When they were at work, she would sneak over to the house and do bizarre things like poison their bushes and pour caustic chemicals on the driveway in strange patterns. (Thank GOD neither of my friends’ dogs were hurt.) They tried talking to her to no avail and eventually complained to the police but were told there was nothing that could be done unless they caught her in the act. So they set up a video camera on a tripod in the large picture window facing the street and aimed it in her direction. That was the last she bothered them.

I have a crazy next-door neighbor myself, but she is kind to animals and built a heated treehouse for flying squirrels and has essentially a bird sanctuary going on in her yard thanks to all the feeders, baths, etc.

Wow! They are just bizarre! Her daughter walked into your yard of her own free will, right? And at no point do you as a neighbor make any claims that your yard is poop free, right? I would suggest to the neighbor that she use this as an opportunity to teach her daughter not to walk in neighbors’ yards uninvited. :D

I’m so sorry you have to deal with this.

Boysx3:

I’ve PM’d you.

What a nightmare. I thought the father and oldest S had moved out, but I guess that was only temporary. How long have they been back? Considering the previous domestic violence call to police, maybe the wife is afraid of the H’s wrath when he finds out or he’s the one that demanded she go around to the get compensation for the shoes. It could also explain why she went to the neighbor after you. Considering the history I’d almost be inclined to report any and all incidents involving this family.

BTW, how is your dog and did you ever find out why your puppy was having seizures? Did you ever suspect these neighbors of poisoning him/her? It seemed suspicious that they didn’t let their dogs out the way the usually did around that time.

Boyz: I may have mentioned this…I love fences! I love the privacy, and the security (a 9 pound baby should never have a casual meet up with neighbors’ dogs or children on your property. And yes, I know no fences can lead to a soccer game or a neighborhood barbeque…but fences…yes with high hedges. And then your neighbors won’t be subjected to devil worship.

Sally–your neighbors and mine should be neighbors.

T’sdad–I pm’ed you back

Thanks for asking about our puppy. I think the seizures were caused by her getting into some chocolate–we found foil from Hershey’s kisses in her doggie bed.

Do you think it would be bad manners if I asked about the device on their son’s ankle and why he never goes any further than their deck?

Google him. He is probably on a mug shot site and you can find out all you didn’t want to know about him.

Oh my. I just started reading this thread and can’t get past the satanic Havdallah ritual accusation.

I’m having one tomorrow night at my house and you’re all invited.

Just don’t even answer the door when these folks ring.

Oh dear. Your neighbor is mentally ill. With a whopper of a personality disorder. And mean. Probably paranoid too. I have heard that we have a whacky one in our neighborhood. Fortunately for me, she lives on the far end of the street from me. I love our next door neighbors. They seem nice enough, but I hardly know them. Ideal, imo. Stay safe.

OMG! I’m going to go hug my normal neighbors now!

I would buy her little girl 2 pairs of sneakers.

Just read entire thread. many posts ago someone suggested adding our own bad neighbor stories. btw- second word in title should be “have” not “are”.

In our old neighborhood we got a single man neighbor whom someone we know was glad he moved from next to him- he gained and we lost. He fortunately moved a few years before we did. He told me I wasn’t supposed to be talking to his then live-in girlfriend- I saw her and her dog in the front yard. Very controlling.

Long time good neighbors moved and a “Christian” family moved in from NC or SC. They home schooled- many kids in same young to teen ages as OP’s neighbors. Public schools are good in Wisconsin, but maybe there are too many Catholics for their taste. Their kids seemed okay- played sometimes with some like aged neighbor kids who went to the Catholic school. When the oldest was 17 and in front of our yard when I was raking I talked to him and asked him his post “HS” plans. His father came over and said I shouldn’t talk to him. Huh- the kid is practically an adult, by his age he has been inculcated with family views (his plans were a Christian college to be a minister). Gee- wonder if my having an Indian H scared him. Again, very controlling.

Christians need to realize their religion is entirely dependent on Judaism. Heck, Christ was a good Jewish boy (he even corrected the teachers on holy writings). I’d rather be the Good Samaritan- wrong religion, right spirit.

boysx3- HERO. Welcome to our current Florida neighborhood anytime you choose to retire to south of the Bible Belt. Madison is an excellent place to live (and nicely liberal for a childhood and college). Best wishes in the future- try not to let one obnoxious family ruin the neighborhood.

We got lucky here- excellent neighbors. The kind who ask us favors and we ask them (mail, check house when gone)- feel liked since they feel comfortable asking us to take in their mail when they forgot to stop it.

Hope your elderly neighbor is doing well. Your @##$% neighbors would have a fit hearing my M-in-law’s Hindi songs. At least your religion begat theirs. Remembered that H’s partners at one time happened to include (by birth, not necessarily by adult practice- some perhaps atheist) a Hindu, Jew, Muslim, Catholic, Lutheran and Bible based Christian- they all got along well.

But you have to want to get along with the neighbors. I have to admit we have never been friendly with any neighbors in any of our homes. We have been polite (both sides), pleasant when we meet but that is about it. One of our former neighbors is a fairly famous actress. She convinced herself that we would want to meet her and chat. (The “we” includes all the neighbors, not us.) When we had a mild earthquake a while back I did go to two neighbors who are elderly and live alone. Other than that…no.

Ok, now I’ve lost my appetite for tootsie rolls… :D

I’m really sorry about your neighbors, and I hope they aren’t so crazy as to harm you or your family.
