"We Are The World 25"

Anyone seen the video yet, which is a fundraiser for Haiti? It sent me rushing to Youtube to exerience the original again, and boy, the new one is weak sauce by comparison. I can live with the rap and vocoder elements, because they do reflect the state of music today, but the performers leave a lot to be desired, both in the quality of their voices and their superstar status, or lack thereof. Every singer on the original is still something of an icon today, but who will know who Justin Bieber is 25 years from now (or next year, when his voice finally changes…)? There was also a real lack of male star power–but I guess that also reflects the state of music today.

I enjoyed it. Didn’t know who Justin Bieber is. Was quite surprised to see Michael Jackson in it!

I like the original one.

I don’t know half of people in it. It needed subtitles to ID the singers for the “pop challenged.” I liked the rap parts the best.

It’s a terrible song that makes no sense, but I like looking at the old one. I noticed Bette Midler was there but didn’t have a solo which was too bad. Bob Dylan actually carried a little bit of a tune.

yikes 1985 was 25 years ago. I remember taping Live Aid from MTV and at least one other channel on betamax tapes. Thank goodness I transferred to VHS years ago. should probably go to DVD now. I have more of that concert than was released on the official DVD.

a quarter century. Okay, admit it, I just made you feel old!

Not a fan of the new version. A whole new song would have been better.
