said by laura bush. because “i think we’ve paid a lot of attention to girls for the last thirty years and we have this idea that boys can take care of themselves. We’ve raised them to be totally self-reliant, starting really too early.” So, hey guys are you really all totally self-reliant? Have we really made som much progress and have I missed something or are women’s salaries still low and rape still high? curious about what you think

Yeah basically we are self-reliant. We don’t need to talk on the phone for hours at a time. We don’t commit suicide when our girlfriends break up with us (well, most of us anyway). And we still remember that there are more important things in the world than nails and hair.

Haha great answer.

i hope that was mere sarcasm…

I knew George was dumb, I assumed Laura was dumb for marrying him, now that assumption has been solidified.

I’m assuming she was talking about education, where boys have been shown to lag behind girls.

If so, she is right.

Yes, we men are all sex-hungry rapists. It is true.

Girls definitely get pampered more, but I don’t think it is detrimental to either boys or girls. Boys do grow up thinking that it’s okay to be dumb and good only at sports, because they’re boys, so that might need to be changed. But when they reach high school and become individuals, it evens out.

in recent years, all the attention has been going to girls in education. they’re getting the extra science enrichment programs because girls tend to lean towards the humanities, while guys, who lean towards math / science, aren’t getting many writing / english help. I don’t know about your schools, but in my school, and i think generally now, girls are the stronger sex academically. #2-6 and maybe more are all girls, student government president / VP / treausurer / secretary – female. girls have been getting all the attention academically.

guys seem to be a lot more self-reliant in general though. guys are supposed to be manly and athletic. That generally means ignoring (to an extent) academics.

I don’t see the girl-humanities, guy-science and math trend at my school. All the AP math and science classes have more girls in them than guys and there’s also more girls in the AP english and history classes too. That might just mean that girls are stronger acadamically in general at my school. But with the sports, its usually the girls Soccer team or the Girls Cross country team that make it to State Championships and such. Class officers are also girls.
(and no i don’t go to an all girl school.)

BigJake: that was obnoxious. Just because the females of your acquaintance might behave in such a matter does not mean that it applies to the other 99.99% of the female population.

Actually, it doesn’t even out in high school. TIME had a report on it a year back. Basically, boys are definitely lagging behind in high school, with a huge majority of girls as valedictorian or salutatorian.

Congrats to Laura for recognizing this flaw in our school systems. She’s not just “that dumb-ass’s wumman” but a former teacher and intelligent woman in her own right. Kudos to her.

When approximately 25 percent of all births are out of wedlock, it means (in those homes) girls grow up with role models but boys don’t. A ratio of 43 percent males to 57 females in colleges is just one symptom of this problem.

Well, it’s not like guys are generally stupid, but she’s right. A lot of attention has been put onto women recently just because they needed to even the odds from 50 years of “oppression”. Well, it’s swinging the other way, now.

I could quote tyler durden, but I won’t.
