“We should be too big to take offense and too noble to give it.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

I can’t say that I an too noble to give offense. The combination of awkward phrasing and bitchy resting face ( translated as : so nearsighted I am always squinting at things), means I irritate people when I don’t mean to.

But I am working on not taking things so personally. Its usually not about me.

Why do we expend energy on being offended by things we can’t change?
Change the way we look at things and the things we look at will change.
Give others the space to be themselves.

Some people aren’t happy unless they are aghast at something. Maybe they enjoy drama.

I don’t know why people are this way - but I do love that quote!

I think some people do long for drama, but if they want something to be appalled by, all they have to do is read a newspaper.

I completely disagree with #2. While feelings and emotions can never be “wrong” the actions and words you use to express those feelings can be inappropriate, destructive, hurtful, inconsiderate, or even deadly.

I’m this way. I’m especially bad at work when someone offers to help me. I immediately think that I’m not doing a good job or they wouldn’t be offering. In reality, I generally take on more work than some of my co-workers and I think they honestly just feel bad and want to help. It’s hard though - my first thought is all negative - trying to stop, but it’s difficult.
