"Wealthy Tutor" program- worth it?

My name is Vincent and I am a senior from Midland High School. I started a tutoring service this year, using fellow classmates to help tutor and mentor students of all ages. It’s going decently so far- I’ve got the full support of my school, 10-20 tutors, 10-20 clients, and a sponsor who gives scholarships to those who cannot afford tutoring.

I know a big reason for a lot of failures and missed opportunities this year is me. I’m doing things wrong that are adversely affecting my mission. Poor organization, poor communication, poor motivation. And my website sucks too.

So I came across this website yesterday. It’s called the “Wealthy Tutor.”
Basically the website tells you their program will provide you advice as well as a template as to how to begin a tutoring service.

THe problem is it costs some serious money (at least $100) . I sent them an email addressing my money issues and asking them if their product was worth it. They replied today that it was then told me to go to the testemonial page (which for all I know was all made up).

So I don’t know what to do. Here’s their website. Any advice would be appreciated

My Ds tutor started by handing out fliers along with her resume and references at the local schools (with the principals permission) she got lots of clients that way

one way to start is not not charge as much as the established tutors, as you have no track record. after awhile you can raise you fees

see what other tutors are charging and go a bit lower

our tutor started at 15 an hour three years ago, and now charges 35-40 an hour and can pick and choose

the trick is to get some clients and maybe not make a fortune right away, but if you are good, word of mouth will get you more clients, and with new clients you can charge a bit more once you have good word of mouth

be sure and have references- school counselor, teacher, coach, pastor whatever, to say you are a good kid, etc

be friendly to the parents, be prepared, find out what you will be tutoring in before hand- what kind of math, or science, come with work sheets, and all your supplies

dress like you know what you are doing, it does matter to parents- don’t show up in a Budweisser shirt, or saggy droopy pants, we do care about those things even if you kids dont, we are paying money and you need to appear professional

be sure and show up on time, and if you can go to the student, all the better, easier to get clients

be flexible

good luck!!

I already do al lthat citygirlsmom. In fact, I’ve been doing that for about 6 months. I’ve got the full support of the school (sometimes I even miss class to tutor) and get calls frequently. It’s just not going as well as it should and I’m wondering what I need to do to fix it.

Plus I’m worried that when I leave for school next year, my tutoring network will die. I’ve been doing some plans to keep the infrastructure or at least the idea alive, but I don’t know if it will work

Consider going to some business clubs in your area and ask for help. I would think the chamber of commerce might find a retired business person who would like to help a young person to succeed. good luck

I wouldn’t trust a web site unless I knew someone who had used it already.

I know that I am soooooo late to reply in this message and I doubt anybody who originally replied to this thread are still in college but it doesn’t hurt to try.

I am very interested in what you have written 5 years ago (hehheh) because a few months ago I came up with an idea for an organization that is very similar to yours. If you are still going onto this website, I would like to know how you set it up, if it’s still going on after you graduated that high shcool, and if you did try out the Wealthy Tutor and your results with the pricey beast. I have my own ideas such as talking to principal, going to other schools, posting fliers, having specific guidelines and contracts and rules for my organization, but I am very happy to find out someone who did something that I plan to do even if it was five years ago.

JOSH05… I’ll be starting my own business October 2011 and was thinking about the Wealthy Tutor System as well. Still comtemplating. I want the works which will cost over $500.00 (I would use all that it offers.) Anyway I have some ideas that maybe helpful although I haven’t started my business yet. Any specific ideas you’re looking for? I have ideas for student recruitment and tutor recruitment. I plan on having 10-12 students who will be tutored by college students who I will not have to pay (cuts down on overhead.) I can explain that more if interested. Also will be using the public library which in my town has private rooms which can be used for free (another way to cut costs, especially since I have no car and it’s less distractions.) I’d also love to hear your ideas.
