Wearing the same clothes several days in a row...

http://blog.sfgate.com/chronstyle/2015/04/13/why-i-wore-the-same-outfit-to-work-every-day-last-week/

A (female) staffer (the article writer) and a (male) co-worker wore the same clothes for a whole week, starting Monday.

I Have and wear many pairs of black, gray and navy pants. I never wear the same pair within a week, but I admit to having a pretty boring “uniform” for work. I own LOTS of clothes, but always seem to pull the same clothes off the hangers.

Anything to save on laundry!

I have lots of identical clothes in my closet. If I find something particular versatile when I’m shopping, I’ll buy at least 2. I found these really great fitting tropical-weight, wool khaki trousers; I bought 4 pairs.

Needs less brain cells in the morning.

Ralph Nader bought identical suits, identical socks and wore the same thing every day. He said it saved time and he didn’t have to think about it. Nor did he spend time matching socks because they were all the same.

This just wouldn’t work for me. I love my clothes and love variety. I look forward to different looks, different materials and being creative.

with or without washing them? If you are wearing clean clothes every day - either washing the outfit occasionally or wearing different versions of the exact same outfit - I have to confess at being shocked that this is any kind of an “issue” or “thing”… I have 5 pairs of jeans I wear one or the other every day… so?

When I travel I double up often, without washing.

I hope I’m not confessing something shocking, but I can wear a pair of pants lots of times before it needs washing, and if I wear an undershirt, I can wear a shirt probably–I don’t know–eight times before it is visibly dirty or smells. So while I wouldn’t wear the same shirt every day for a week, I may well wear it more than seven times before it’s washed.

That’s the beauty of men wearing a tuxedo to a formal event - no muss, no fuss. I can’t believe all the trouble my W has to go through to find the proper dress for the same event.

I wash my jeans after wearing them but remember that the Levi guy said to never wash your jeans just put them in the freezer once in a while… So I assume there are a lot of people who wear clothes more than once between washings.
So wearing clothes more than 1 day in a row doesn’t seem that much different.

^^^This.

I certainly wear certain clothing items more than once before washing, so I really wish it were more acceptable to wear things two days in a row (as it stands now though, I wouldn’t do it for work, but I definitely do in everyday life outside of work). That being said, not repeating outfits every week is where I draw the line. It seems like in the work world (NYC) many women almost find it a faux pas to wear an outfit every week. I don’t subscribe to that - I am not interested in spending hundreds (thousands?) on clothes, so I feel repeating an outfit every week is totally fine.

I work in a business casual office (corporate HQ) in very non-NYish mid-South, and I would not wear an outfit more than once in a week. I can’t recall anyone else (that I’ve noticed) doing that around here, either. But then again, I think clothes are fun and I like shopping for them.

^^^That’s what I meant too - I wouldn’t wear an outfit twice in one week (although I wish it were acceptable), but I do wear the same outfit from week too week.

Like people in much of the world do all the time.

My dad grew up in an orphanage. He said they used to wear their underwear one day, then turn it inside out and wear it for another day.

I love clothes and spend an inordinate amount of time planning my wardrobe. Having less allows me to spend more on individual garments. It isn’t unusual for me to wear the same dress M-F. Usually I wear something different on the weekend just because we are going out someplace and I’m getting more dressed up than usual. I try to launder my clothes as little as possible, and will frequently just spot clean, be cause it tends to wear them out. Of course, I do change underthings daily and if I worked in an office, I’d probably have to conform to the norms there.

My husband has the same shirt and the same pants and the same socks in multiples. He does like Hunt with the underclothes and re-wearing shirts (and pants) He has different ties, sweaters, jackets. He doesn’t like to shop and I can just re-order his shirts and pants when necesary now I know what he likes. easy-peasy.

I lived long enough to be able to assemble a closet of things that can be put together in various ways making it look like I’m wearing a different thing every day. Some of my items are more than 10 years old, and people still comment how lovely they look (hey, a leather pencil skirt is a leather pencil skirt and a shirt is a shirt!). My secret is to select things that have lasting potential, i.e., not trendy, keep washing to a minimum to preserve the fabric, and take care of the stains etc. on the spot. Shoes are a different matter! I love shoes. I splurge on them.

Ladies, do you know that you are not supposed to wash your bras after every wear? (This might not be an option for someone prone to sweating). Soap and chlorine in tap water are the enemies of elastic.

I have multiple pairs of the same black pants that fit very well and I usually wear them at least a couple of times a week. I often wonder if people notice how often I wear these identical pants.

I definitely prefer a “uniform” approach to work clothes. I would happily wear the same thing every day if I could get away with it.

Also, I’m having some (hopefully temporary) medical problems that have caused extreme swelling in my legs, which has severely limited my ability to wear skirts and dresses and also has limited my footwear choices to a couple of pairs of ankle boots. So right now, I really end up wearing pretty much the same thing every day on my lower half.

I was actually thinking of starting a “what to wear to work” thread. My typical uniform of black pants, tank top, blazer and ankle boots is getting pretty tired.

Me, too BunsenBurner. I have a Jaeger jacket and pants that still look fashionable and are in good shape that I bought 17 years ago. My only problem is the waistband is a bit tighter than I’d like.
Black wool or linen pants, a silk blouse and some kind of jacket or sweater is my go-to outfit for just about anything requiring looking presentable. I have many pairs of black pants of varying fit and degrees of trendiness. Otherwise, it’s jeans and t-shirts in summer, jeans and cashmere sweaters in winter. I don’t mind looking my age so I usually stick with classic styles. I’m a fan of my dry cleaners.
