Rumor has it East Coast=Super COLD! Hinder anyone’s studies? Annoying? From Cali and really want to go to East Coast but I’m afraid being so cold will make it difficult. Thanks!

By East Coast, I assume you mean the Northeast because states like Florida and South Carolina don’t get particularly cold.

It really only gets bitterly cold a few months out of the year, which can come as a relief after summer heat/humidity. Bundle up, and it is not a terribly big deal.

If anything, the cold makes it easier to study, because you really don’t want to be outside. At the northern colleges, it becomes much harder to get yourself to study in April and May when it’s suddenly warm outside and you have so many other options for what to do with your time.

Don’t buy your winter coat and shoes until you get there and see what everybody else is wearing to stay warm and dry. Half the battle is keeping your feet dry in all the snow and slush. Wear wool and polypropelene socks, and shoes lined with Goretex (check out the offerings by Timberland and Dunham). And wear a hat.
