Hi everyone!

I am an international student and I have walking difficulties.

I come here to know what can you tell me about the weather of University Park. It gets very icy - doesn’t it? Does someone knows what the school does for this? Expecially treatment to disabled students.
I also wanted to know if there are shuttles around the school or if it is needed to walk a lot to get to class.
Moreover, are there lots of stairs or not-plain ground at the campus? Are elevators available?

Thank you so much!

The office for disability services has their own website here: <a href=“Student Disability Resources — Office of the Vice Provost for Educational Equity”>http://equity.psu.edu/ods

Obviously we get lots of snow which can easily turn into ice. OPP (the schools grounds crew basically) does a really really good job of salting sidewalks and clearing roads/walkways before the day starts, but even still I found myself slipping and sliding sometimes during the winter. I cant speak for the specific services but I know there is a campus type shuttle im not very familiar with in addition to the campus bus routes.

We are definitely a walking campus though, its a very big place

How long this condition lasts? Ice and winter in general.

The first snow is usually in November, but it’s not impossible to have a little in October. Last snowfall is generally in February but the cold lasts well into March, and again, snow in March sometimes happens.

Temperatures are low, but we don’t spend much time below zero. Some winters we have hardly any snow, some winters it seems to never stop. PSU sidewalks are generally cleared well, but in big snowstorms that can’t happen because of the size of campus.

As Etuck said, University Park is very much a walking campus — it is very big. There is a bus system but it won’t necessarily drop you door to door
