Currently sitting out a tornado in my basement and had the sudden thought…obviously Hurricane Irene (?) hit Annapolis a couple years ago, but do they get tornadoes?

I wouldn’t think so because tornadoes are almost exclusively land based, whereas hurricanes come off the water. But, I don’t know much about either, being as I live in CA.

I know that hurricanes have the ability to spawn tornadoes, so the possibility is not out of the question. I know I’ve seen waterspouts off the East coast, but I don’t know how common they are in the Bay.

I had to laugh when I saw this question

I live in PA and because of the mountains, we dont get tornados but I dont know how mountainous Maryland is. Hope that helps…

I live in Virginia Beach, where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. Waterspouts are seen every now and then, but I can’t remember anytime that there has been any serious safety threat or damage from them. They tend to stay out to sea.
