Weather?

Can you tell me about the weather in Middlebury? I understand it’s in Vermont, but during the school year, is there sun, rain, snow, hail, etc. and for how long?

I’ve never been to the north-northeast, so I would like to know how it is living there.

Thanks!

Snow. Probably between November and March. Sometimes April. I was in southern Vermont in mid April in 2007… still plenty of snow on the ground. but that was an oddity… usually it’s gone by April 1st.

August-September: warm days, cool nights (sleep with the windows open!) May have the first frost.
September-October: leaves, leaves, more leaves. Gorgeous colors! Some rain.
October-November: cool days, cold nights. Probably the first snow of the season (watch out for the “first snow” snowball fight)
December-March: Cold days (many in the teens and single digits), really cold nights. Lots of snow. There are many vacations during this time, so you can escape to somewhere warm.
April-May: mud season! Lots of rain, perhaps some snow.
June-August: green, warm-to-hot days, cool nights. blue ghost fireflies!

Great description Arcadia! Makes me want to go back

The only thing I would add to arcadia’s description is that the weather can change REALLY fast. This summer was odd weather-wise, but definitely showed how random things can be–flash flooding, thunderstorms out of nowhere, on and off sunshine, etc. That’s more in the warmer months though. Winter is pretty consistently just cold and snowy, with a few cold snaps when the temperature will drop below zero. I love it here (I am a Vermonter after all), but it definitely is not for the faint of heart who’ve never experienced a real winter.

^I do find the winters here have been a bit lacking in recent years, though. A couple years ago, though, it pretty much rocked. Stupid global warming, messing up our patterns…
