A friendly aquaintance (sports, carpool) is getting remarried. They are buying out her ex’s share of a beautiful house and having a family only destination wedding with no planned celebration at home. I’d like to get her a little something but have no idea what. Any suggestions?

My nephew is a marketing/management major. I’d like to get him some kind of business magazine subscription (he does actually read magazines) but again, I’m clueless - suggestions anyone?

Do they like to garden? I would love a plant (hydrangea, hardy hibiscus, or anything that flowers). You can put it in a nice pot and they won’t even have to dig a hole. Or a small japanese maple in a pot.
The new Endless Summer hydrangea will bloom all summer, and there’s also a new one that is smaller. I have a miniature crape myrtle that’s only supposed to get about 4-5’ tall (as opposed to the tree size ones). It’s less than a year old but has bloomed all summer so far.

One of my neighbors remarried (for the 3rd time). I think this one will stick. I gave them a photo frame that you would give for a 25th anniversary–one opening in which you put a wedding photo/the other opening in which you put a 25th anniversary photo (when it happens). They appreciated the vote of confidence.

I would go with a frame… and a picture in it. I like the idea of flowers, but you never know if either of them is allergic. One of my friends gave me a flower for college graduation and I swear the thing almost killed me the first night it was in my room. I threw it out my door because I realized I couldn’t breathe with it in my room. I had to keep it all the way on the other side of the living room, and I couldn’t be in the living room with it. Not a good gift.

In the years immediately after receiving my BMA, Business Week was the one magazine I read steadily. Dabbled in the others. At another price point, the Wall Street Journal is the one I still read and will probably never give up. It covers a lot of bases with financial news, stock listings, world and national news, opinion pieces and (my current fave) Weekend Journal.

You may want to consider a subscription to Sales & Marketing Management magazine. I think it runs $48, although you could probably find a better deal online. I always appreciated subscriptions to magazines that weren’t readily available at our local library.
