Wedding in the Poconos

I have never been to this area. How is it? All I know is that there used to be ads in the back of my teen magazines, advertising heart shaped bathtubs/tacky resorts. Please tell me that is not representative of the area.

Oh no!

hahahahaha.

This one looks nice

The Poconos: Where Heart Meets Tub – Read Review

Sorry Toledo. I hope you get some good responses. Just teasing you a bit…

Yes, that does look nice. There couldn’t be any odd-shaped bathtubs there, could there?

It sounds like a lovely destination wedding. Please do share, as I’ve never been to the area. Have only been to Philadelphia, Amish country and Gettysburg.

Has the couple indicated where specifically the event will be? Sometimes they get a special rate for a block of rooms guests can rent, to be near everything. If the rates are too high, you can look for something near that’s a bit lower.

My son and his fiance’ are actually going to look at places this weekend. She is from that area, so knows what to expect. It will be a fall of 2017 wedding.

It’s so funny because when my husband heard, “Poconos”, he immediately thought of those ads, too. I think there must be thousands of us.

There are many lovely wedding venues in the Poconos. It would be a beautiful place for a wedding.

Well, congrats on the engagement in the family @toledo!!!

Yes, an engagement is a fun and exciting milestone! I’m sure the couple will figure it out–cool times ahead!

Fall in the Poconos will be absolutely breathtaking. Less summer cottage traffic and not yet snow skiing traffic . It is a great time of year to go. Congrats.

Wow, does this question bring back memories! DH and I had only a couple of days after our 1977 wedding, and went to one of these resorts. We changed rooms twice–the first room was too ugly (carpeted walls!) and the second was right above the disco. All rooms featured heart shaped beds and tubs. We had pictures taken, turned into a View Master, he in his leisure suit and me in a blue polyester dress. Fortunately, we had a much longer “second honeymoon” in Hawaii for our first anniversary.

I know this resort has been totally revamped into a modern all-inclusive resort, and assume many others have been also. The area itself is really nice.

Looks like only three resorts left with any heart shaped tubs. However, they seem to have been replaced…

Sorry couldn’t help myself, Toledo.

We live a couple hours away and they have many new resorts but we have not been up to check any out.
Great that the future DIL is from the area. You will all have a great time.

I spend a lot of time in the Poconos since my son and my sister have houses there (near Hazleton). There are lovely venues.

The Poconos will offer beautiful autumn scenery and some lovely venue options. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

There are nice places, there are tacky places. “The Poconos” actually encompasses a fairly large area so if you would like more specific information, feel free to be more detailed. Like anywhere, something very nice will be relatively expensive. One limitation is absence of a nearby airport and no good public transportation. You’re unlikely to even find an Uber there. I’m sure future couple will take that in to consideration and arrange transportation between hotel options and venues.
