i’m confused, ga tech has a somewhat avg. acceptance rate…arguably one of the top engineering schools in the country… over half the student body majors in engineering… yet i’ve heard repeatedly that gatech has a huge weedout reputation and that students arent allowed to collaborate(i.e. work in groups, do hw together, study together) yet they have a multitude of tutoring available. if so many kids get weeded out, how come more people major in engineering than any other top school?

Georgia Tech students major in engineering because the degree is worth it. Graduate engineer rank is 4th in the nation and I believe undergraduate rank is 6th if I am not mistaken. Companies that sought engineers will most likely hire engineer with a degree from Georgia Tech than Emory since Emory is not known for their engineer degree. But if the companies sought for business or management major, they will most likely to choose one with degree from Emory than Georgia Tech. (Emory is just an example. It’s only college I can think of at the moment that has one major in higher rank and other in lower than Georgia Tech. I have no intention of demean the Emory’s engineer degree.)

here’s some example of weed out classes:
Math1502 (Calculus II)
Phys2212 (Physics II)
ECE2025( Digital Signal Processing ) ( some of my friends change major after this )

There’s tutoring service called 1 to 1 tutoring. It’s free and one appointment per week. As far as collaboration goes, some class promote working together but some course require you to work alone ex Lab (which you should to learn the material but I don’t see anything wrong with collaborating… as long as you learn the material).

don’t be afraid to come to Georgia Tech. Students who are flunking out of tech is because they don’t try. They study like they are still in high school and just take the test without thorough study of material. If you are willing to spend over night for a test (or start studying 3 days before the test) you will be in good shape. Just have different mindset about college and have good time management and you will do great( just hope that most of your fellow classmates know as much as you are or dumb as you are and you will pull average). I think freshman and sophomore years were harder but once you past that and get into your major courses, it’s easier to get better grade (for me that was the case).
