Never weigh yourself after a convention. Friday lunch was chinese food. Friday night dinner after several long meetings was Denny’s. Saturday food at the lunch was lemon chicken with fettucini alfredo. Stepped on the scale on Thrusday, stepped on it again Sunday AM. Up 4 lbs. I know I can’t have gained 4 real lbs. Hoping it is water weight from all the salty foods.
I am planning on getting back on track and staying off the scale till at least Wed or Thursday.
Also agree on make your own. If my weight begins to creep up I know I am eating out too much.

Advice worthy of a cross-stitched sampler, mom60!

Glad to see the thread was rescued from page 4!!! We can always count on Abasket!
I went away this weekend and overindulged. Ate out twice. Ate a scone, a brownie, an icecream and a piece of pecan pie.

Oops.

So…I’m with you Mom60, no weigh in until the end of the week and I’ll double the workouts. Should I go to the gym tomorrow before work or not?

When going on trips, stop off at Trader Joes and buy a few pounds of nuts. Emergency health food for road warriors.

OK, I have lost weight and reached my goal but am still working hard to maintain/tone up and stick with the healthy diet. People have congratulated me on the weight loss and that’s always nice to hear.
Recently, a few people have asked me how much I weigh now. I was kind of taken aback. Isn’t that one of those personal questions that you don’t ask someone. These people were not related to me nor are they one of my close friends.

How would you answer if a co-worker or a neighbor that you only see/talk to occasionally
asked “How much do you weigh?”

I’d tell them. I’d even show them a chart and my before and after pictures if they were interested.

Whatever answer you give them, just make sure it’s an answer that makes you feel good!

If asked, “how much do you weigh” I’d say, "About 20 pounds less than I used to! (or however much weight you proudly have lost!

I’ve volunteered my weight loss info to my dentist and my cat’s vet (they’re doctors, right) but am trying to decide what to answer if my extended family ever notices and asks how much I’ve lost. (I never have told people my real weight, even though it was never really an issue until I had the baby who is now almost 24.) I may not mention exact poundage because I don’t ever want them to know what I started at. I’m considering:

-lots and I’m planning on lots more
-about 1/8 of what I started with (or 12%)
-about 12 years worth

To answer “how much do you weigh now?” you could answer “exactly what I meant to”, “just where I wanted to be”, etc. This is one of the questions that shouldn’t be asked and doesn’t have to be answered. One of the old advice columnists always suggested answering personal questions with “Why do you want to know?” In a really sweet inquiring way.

My answer is something along the lines, “just about as much as the weight on my first driver’s license”
or “just enough to fit into this Prada skirt”
. Shoot, I will have to update my DOL records with my new weight when I renew my DL next year, since it still says 148. :)

mom60, since you did not consume extra 15,000 calories
I bet it is water weight and “bloat”.

I made it to the gym today at 6 am. Yeah…me!

I don’t really look much like my drivers license picture anymore. I think that they’re good for six years in NH so I’ll have it for several years more.

Thanks for the great ideas. They’re good “comebacks”.

But wait… there’s more. Another “comment” that is sometimes closely followed by “how much do you weigh?” is “Well, you look good but you don’t need to lose any more” or “You’re not still trying to lose are you?” I’ve been so tempted to say “Is that a compliment?” But usually sputter along explaining that I’m trying to make a lifestyle change that doesn’t stop when you reach a certain number on the scale. Someone asked me “Now that you’ve lost weight, are you going to start eating again?” I said “I’ve never stopped eating.”

Believe me I am not skeletal or even close. Most who make these comments to me are the same ladies who are always talking about going on diets…key words “talking about”.
They ask me how I did it but then say " Oh,I can’t do that".

I love this thread because everyone is really trying and are so supportive of each other’s efforts and victories.

Bunsen, Our state’s driver’s license don’t have our weight printed on them…just height, eye color and hair color…hmm maybe I should have that changed to “brown with gray” next time:).

The gym at 6am - that deserves applause!

PackMom, could be this group of women are just simply jealous! Seriously, I have people around me at work who don’t exercise, are overweight are constantly popping candy bars in their mouths, but give me grief if I have a reasonable, well balanced lunch and can say “no” if donuts are in the kitchenette.

My standard answer to the weight loss question “I lost enough weight to fit into my favorite clothes in my closet.” Enough said.

Thumper - that is a great response.

I really, really avoid any discussions of diet, food, etc., in real life with anyone other than my two closest friends. One also does racewalking and the other is also committed to a healthy lifestyle. I don’t want to sound defensive, I don’t want to sound like I am preaching, I don’t want to explain. So many women I work with are overweight. They probably would have been happy to weigh what I did before I lost weight. Eating is comfort to them and far be it for me to interfere.

Thumper, I think your response is gracious but doesn’t invite a lot of follow-up!

In my building, I’d say that about 25 to 30 percent are overweight which is a much lower percentage than the overall population and there is casual discussion about diet, fitness and nutrition in the hallways and kitchens from time to time.

We’ve had “Greatest Loser” challenges in the past where you post your name, weight and progress on a chart above the scale in the fitness center.

Just started tracking calories this weekend on the livestrong site… hoping that will help me take off the many pounds I need to loose!

Great step to take, Rushedmom! Keep us updated and share any tips!

Nope…I have yet to have anyone ASK me what size my favorite clothes are:)

I’m back on track…went to the gym today (didn’t go all last week, but I did go to yoga). Bought the ingredients for a veggie lasagna for dinner.

Weigh in tomorrow morning…keeping fingers crossed (will that keep me from overeating??).

Most people that I meet don’t ask how much I weigh now, but are more interested to hear how much weight I’ve lost. If asked how much I weigh now, I’d laugh and ask them to ask me in 3 months when I hope to be down to my target weight.
