Weight Loss for Dummies

I stopped having a scale in my bathroom for the last 6 years. i don’t know why,but I just didn’t get one.The price was gaining over 20 pounds. I have a scal now nad I weigh myself everyday :D

I think I will try the adobo today or tomorrow. I am thinking I will try it with chicken. My H would probably like the pork but he thinks he doesn’t like pork. He is as bad as the kids.
Workinprogress- My D would not be thrilled if I tried to give her Tempeh for dinner.

What helped me a lot in stabilizing at a good weight about 20 years ago was figuring out how to structure my breakfast and lunch to fuel me well through the day but not involve too many calories. Then I just have to figure out dinner. If every single meal is a big puzzle then I tend to just give up and eat willy nilly. I know that for me I need carbs with a bit of protein in the morning (ie, toast and PB or oatmeal w/yogurt or a couple eggs and toast) and not much but something at lunch – a cheese sandwich and an apple or a some soup and a roll.

So for me it is about structuring my breakfast and lunch – then I do fine.

OK…I’m back. Weigh in day is Tuesday and I didn’t last week…no power so I couldn’t update my online thing anyway. I’ll do it tomorrow and hope for the best.

I have a scale. Without one, the weight just creeps up, I find. My clothes seem to “stretch out”…I would NOT rely on those as my weight barometer.

Report on the chicken adobo. I used 3 bone in breast and 3 whole legs. I made it in the crock pot. I had it on high for 3 hours. At that point I removed the meat from the breasts and remove the bones. I left the legs on the bone. I switched it to low and left it for several more hours till evening. Served it over rice. It smelled really good. S absolutely loved it, D and I liked it. H went with it was okay. H is a former vegetarian and I think the inclusion of dark meat with the bone turned him off.
Both D and I felt it would be better with pork. I compare it to pulled pork in the crock pot to pulled chicken. The chicken just doesn’t pick up the flavor as well as the pork.
To stay with my low carb diet I had mine minus the rice.

Woohoo…down two more pounds since two weeks ago. Less than a pound to be within my WW “goal” weight…and only four pounds to be where I want to be. Good news is I can wear my favorite jeans!

^^^ Great news! Yeah, favorite jeans!!!

Congrats, Thumper!!!

Well…I “rewarded” myself with a salted caramel Starbucks (no whipped cream with skim milk).

How much could one’s weight change in a day w/o any special event?

Is a person at the lightest in the morning and he/she could gain weight by the afternoon?

DadII…all you have to do is overeat and you will see a change in the scales…just weigh yourself in the morning and then pig out all day. You will weigh more in the evening and probably the next day too. Do this day after day and you can really put on the pounds.

Most folks weigh the least in the morning…right when they wake up.

Congrats, thumper!

I have to say that I find chicken doesn’t work very well in the slow cooker, most of the time.

What kind of chicken recipe are you talking about Alumother? What do you find it doesn’t do well??

Off topic…but I have some delicious chicken recipes for the slow cooker that work well every time!

Do we have a slow cooker recipe thread here?

Hooray for abasket and thumper! Love those milestones.

I haven’t reported much because nothing new and exciting - still slowly dropping about a pound a week and have passed 27 pounds. No new recipes.

But talking of jeans…about four months ago I was going to give away an old bag of clothes that I had figured would never fit again. Then I realized I’d better keep them. Last weekend I pulled an old pair of jeans out of the bag, put them on, and ta da! Good thing because now I’ve started a bag of old clothes that will never fit again because they are too big. Hoping to add to that bag as I try on my winter clothes.

Great news Marilyn. I think I have three different size clothes in my closet. I’m working on getting into the smallest pile. Right now, I’m in the middle…except for that favorite pair of jeans! Most of the rest are summer clothes.

My very smallest clothes are pre-baby (the almost 24 year old). I can’t imagine losing that much weight but if I do, I have some great bikinis and dinner dresses to wear - and one wedding dress.

I went back into a lot of clothes from 2-3 years ago near the end of summer, but the more I lose, the less old clothes I kept. My oldest clothes are mainly dresses I kept for nostalgia because I loved them so much. Don’t want to buy much until I know where I end up!

I clean out my closet every year…and things that are 24 years old are NOT in there anymore (except for the dress I wore when we got married 30 years ago). Even if they fit…the styles wouldn’t be quite right.

I just cleaned my closet out today…I have 14 pairs of black slacks…why?? That doesn’t count the dress slacks (silk, satin, velvet) ones. I think they are multiplying in my closet…well…I probably only have 4 pairs in each size:)

Last weekend I pulled an old pair of jeans out of the bag, put them on, and ta da!
I had held onto some old clothes because every once in a while D ( who was a camp counselor) wants some for her costume closet. That is about what they are good for- huge shoulder pads- reverse silhouette jeans & crop tops.
Naw- I don’t think I am going to wear any of those again.

Im still wearing the same clothes that I wore three years ago when I was going to the gym 4 x a week, now that I am going again- I am hoping not so much to lose weight- but for it to shift around a little!
