Ernie, do you find the evening eating is done along with watching TV? I think a lot of us tend to do that.

I have always allowed myself a night time snack - you bet it’s a reward for hard work during the day and you bet it’s related to relaxing and chilling out! The key for me is to plan ahead what it’s going to be (instead of walking in the kitchen and grabbing everything in sight) - for instance, if I baked brownies for the rest of the family I know that I am going to have one very small brownie and one very small scoop (not even really a scoop) of ice cream to go with it. I savor EVERY bite and make each bite SMALL. One snack and call it a night.

In the past, I had definitely been someone who could say, “man, I’m hungry I’ll just munch on this bag of sour cream and onion potato chips” - many, many dips later into the bag my stomach feels like a lump. Not worth it.

I also have found that I like the feeling of waking up HUNGRY. If I eat too big a snack at night, I really don’t have a true hungry feeling in the morning, I just eat cause I think I should!

Finally, I’ll share one yummy nighttime snack idea:
Slice one ripe banana in a bowl. Add 1/2 c. skim milk and a little sprinkle of sugar (just a little!!!) Top with a small squirt of whipped cream. Yummy!

I would never try to lose ten pounds in 1.5 months. I think you’ll be lucky to lose five. Livestrong.com is your friend - set up a reasonably calorie goal, get plenty of exercise with a good mix of weight bearing and cardio and good luck. If you get hungry at night, plan that meal into the day. I find carrots and hummus are a good choice when I am hungry. Most of us on this board feel low-carb is usually most effective.

Oh and I am .2 down from last week, which I think counts as no weight loss. Given that I’ve haven’t been rationing the Halloween candy properly, not too bad. No parties this weekend thank goodness!

Made a large batch of Alumother’s pork adobo in a slow cooker overnight and brought a container to work to be used as lunches for the next couple of days. I was told that my cube “smelled great” (not sure if that was the reference to my French perfume or the heavenly smell of pork adobo that lingered in the cube long after I put the container in the fridge :)) I used the leftover apple cider vinegar.

Made the Alumother’s crockpot pork adobo today. Used rice vinegar. Did not add salt and used low sodium soy. Used a 4 pound pork shoulder with the bone in. Trimmed a lot of the fat off before cooking six hours.

When it was done, my DH and I shredded the meat with forks and mixed it back into the superb sauce. Served with white rice, steamed broccolini, sweet potato.

So many folks have posted recipes/recipe links, and if you’re like me, you don’t necessarily remember where you saw it. Rather than post #, here are the page numbers and poster names so far:

My apologies for any omissions. Also, I do not have much control over my left baby finger, the one that types As, so also apologies for those and any other typos.

Hey guys! After the conversation here, I made the pork adobo too:). Guess we were all eating together, virtually. I used cider vinegar, and threw in a tomato that needed to be used. I didn’t have an onion, so I chopped up 4-5 shallots instead. If you like things spicy, you can add one of those canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce.

So happy to have contributed to this little community.

CCSiteObsessed, what a great idea! Thank you for doing an index of recipes.

Congratulations, EPTR! Another 2 lbs is great.

I made the pork adobo yesterday, following the recipe. I used cider vinegar, no salt, and low-sodium soy sauce. I used a pork loin roast, cut into cubes before cooking in the slow cooker. I also used fresh bay leaves, so couldn’t crumble them and removed them before serving. It was fantastic! Thank you so much for the great recipe, Alumother. I love the chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, and will try adding one next time.

I prefer Chicken Adobo to Pork Adobo myself. I checked with my Pilipino American husband, and he thought that there’s not much difference in the ingredients that go into them. The skin gives the chicken adobo more flavor while it is cooking, but I always pull it off before eating. Also, dark meat is more flavorful.

I would love to lose a few pounds and gain some muscle. Actually losing weight is not for dummies it is difficult! Especially fro people over 40

The things that have been useful for me (and others) in losing weight are:

Regular exercise 5-7 days a week. There are exercises that are better than others for fat loss and you can see these in an article on the hierarchy of fat loss [Hierarchy Of Fat Loss](AlwynCosgrove.com)

Record what you eat on an online site that gives you calorie records and nutritional data. I use the LiveStrong site for this. It tells me when I’m getting near my daily quota of calories, allows me to set goals and lets me track progress

Low-carb diet of around 33% carbs. There are lots of diets out there but this one has worked for many folks here

Support group - that’s the folks here - tell people what you’re doing and how you are progressing and ask questions

Removal of sugar from my diet - soda, coffee with cream + sugar, cookies, candy, ice cream, etc. A treat from time to time is expected - just not a high daily intake of sugar.

Don’t ever weigh myself. The battery died on the scale at home about a year ago and haven’t replaced it yet. I rely more on how I feel and how my clothes fit!

Had a doc appt today - overdue, but hey I finally got there for my annual woman’s physical. Climbed on the scale and was ESTATIC to see that I broke the 150 barrier! Without even knowing it! :)

Especially happy because this tends to be the time of year that I get more directed exercise in the form of more than 3x day dog walks, gardening, cutting grass, etc. Since the weather is going downhill, I’ll start heading back to the gym here at work a 3x a week in addition to the dog walks.

Yeah Abasket!
I had a similar experience at a Dr on Friday. A 7 lb drop from when I was in in the spring.

I have a scale in my bathroom for the first time in 20 yrs. For me it helps. It helps me realize how much my weight can vary in just one day. It also shows me that even if I have a bad day I don’t have to let the slide continue. It motivates me to just get back on track. I also added a measuring tape to my bathroom drawer. Once every few weeks I measure my hips and waist. I notice even when my weight is staying steady my clothes are getting big and the measurements are slowly going down.
