Weight Loss for Dummies

Anyone have any good, simple and healthy crockpot recipes?

EPTR–you’ve hit the nail on the head with this comment. It’s one of the top feelings I’ve enjoyed since starting this journey.

Definitely back to earth now, though. After eating a steak at Lucky’s, linguine with clam sauce at Montecito Inn, and apple streudel in Solvang, I’m back not letting food have power over me.

^^^^
Enjoying it doesn’t mean it has power over us! So enjoy! It’s funny. The one food that I never thought I could give up was pasta. Now that I have reduced the carbs drastically, I don’t really crave it anymore. I do still like it in soup but the idea of eating a plate of linguini or spaghetti just doesn’t excite me.

Look for crockpot meals that have a base of meat and veggies and clear broth as opposed to anything cream based.

One SUPER simple one is the one where you put boneless chicken breasts in crockpot. Pour a smaller bottle of salsa over the top. Cook all day. When you come home shred the chicken in the crockpot - it will absorb the salsa and juices. Use it as you would taco meat or taco salad. Yummy, healthy and super simple! (and lower carb too if you don’t use shells/tortillas and make a salad out of it or eat it just the meat and toppings like cheese, olives - whatever you normally put on taco!

Best crockpot recipe I know is one for pork adobo - vinegar, water, soy sauce, bay leaves, peppercorns. Nom.

I found something good to do with left over brown rice. I toasted some walnuts in some Pam on the stovetop, threw in some leftover spinach and then added a small amount of crushed pineapple. It was good! I think it would be even better with scallions.

Not healthy in the least but an awesome crockpot recipe is Oprah’s crockpot lasagne. I won’t post because just reading it will put five pounds on you. So yum.

I want that recipe!

ek4 - here’s the one I use. And I agree with the author, extra salt not necessary.

Weight lose tricks

Eat your meals on salad plates
Use salad forks and spoons,
Chopsticks are great for eating slower and smaller bites
Spices, spices, spices
Share meals out, instead of two dinner, one dinner and one appetizer or salad
When they bring the bread, say no thank you, you won’t miss it
One dessert is enough for three or four people
Salad salad salad add spices to salad and use half the dressing
Use Pam or Whatever, don’t even have oil in the house
Desserts always include fruit
Have grapes in the house, can satisfy the sweet tooth

Wear your too tight leggins or gym pants or whatever when cooking or eating, it reminds you t watch your portions

Treat yourself

When out to eat, bring oe ask for a to go container, and use when food arrives
Put a picture of an outfit you want to fit into on your fridge for motivation

Set goals around important dates like thanksgiving, birthday to lose that extra pound or two, having special dates to work towards helps

Don’t wait and say after the holidays I will start, instead if you can be strong during the holidays, the days after will be even easier

And most important, get support of family, tell them not to offer that extra bite, etc

This one is a definite. I find I always eat less if I am wearing clothes that fit a bit snug. It’s a constant reminder that I have a ways to go.

Thanks, Seahorserock for some great reminders!

Alumother, what cut of pork do you recommend? It looks fabulous.

^^^
I think a pork shoulder? One of those cuts that has a lot of fat before you cook it. But without the bone. Or it’s the butt? Honestly, I just go to the butcher and tell him what I’m doing and then he gives me meat.

Added bonus: it could put your spouse off of his or her feed…so you could be helping two people (more if the family is eating together).

This mornings breakfast:
Put an extra sweet potato in the oven last night. Split it, but a little brown sugar, a little butter, some dried cherries and cranberries and sprinkled it with slivered almonds and a dash of salt. It WAS delicious!

ellemope,

too funny:

Alumother – Oh goodie. I haven’t cooked a pork butt in a long time. It’s very satisfying somehow to announce that we’re having a Pork Butt.

In my experience it takes more than that to put one’s spouse off their feed. :)

I am new to this thread but am hopeful it will provide the support I need. I have a herniated disc, which has restricted my exercise for the past 6 months. Result: weight gain and unflattering stomach. Ugh! I am planning to go away to the beach around the New Year and now have to put on a bathing suit. My goal is to lose 10 lbs. by then, but my evening eating is hard to control. (I am OK during the day.) Suffestions??

Welcome, ernie! Wow, you’ve been on CC since 2005? Goodness, I personally have been hanging around this place since 2007

Have you had any physical therapy after your injury? A skilled PT will be able to suggest some exercises that would not make your injury worse. As far as losing 10 lb by the holidays… That is a pretty tough goal, considering that you only have 1.5 months left. I’m not saying that it is not realistic, but it is not a very healthy weight loss, IMO. How about 5 lb and a new tummy control suit? Worked for me all the time! You can lose the other 5 after coming back from vacation.

To control eating… Let’s see… If I have a strong urge to snack in the evening, I browse swim suit section of NM, Nordie’s or Saks or go to herroom dot com. That worked like a charm for me and quickly quenched my desire to pig out on crap! What about brushing your teeth right after dinner? For me, a second brushing is a deal breaker. I’d rather go hungry than brush my teeth twice. Another sugfgestion: if you cannot resist snacking, how about serving a smaller, high in protein dinner and then snacking on carefully portioned nuts, tons of cut up veggies and fruit, and some cheese? Oh, and please purge your pantry/fridge/etc. of any fattening, sweet, empty calorie-laden stuff (chips, rice cakes, sugary dried fruit, etc.). Good luck!

I’ve been on a diet that omits starches and added sugar. So, no bread, rice, pasta, potatoes. I watched my college age son do this over the summer, combined with scarily intense 2 hour workouts which I am not doing), and lose 35 pounds. He looked a little heavy but did not look like he had 35 pounds to lose but on a broad a 6’4" frame, I guess the weight adds up.So, I decide to try. I started in mid-August and have lost 16 pounds. I’ve plateaued a bit, so I’ll have to see what gets me to the next level. I think I have another 7 pounds to hit my goal.

Ernie, I have not worried about evening eating, but have fruit or fruit and cheese.
