Hey Mom60 - she was JUST what you needed to remind you to pass up those vegan brownies!!!

It was a gorgeous day today, but I didn’t ride my bike, I played in my doubles tennis league today (and WON!). I figure that I will probably have to go back to work when I am 65…but until then, I will enjoy life.

I had a great weigh in today. I think I am back to where I was before menopause hit 12 years ago.

I definitely could do with one of those Tshirts, mom60!

Starting weight: 177.8

Current weight: 159.8

Down 18 lbs since appx December 1st

My goal weight is 125 and my main goal is to run a marathon.

mspearl, that’s unbelievable–congrats! But don’t starve yourself!

I went to whole foods and bought a vegan brownie but decided to try to save it till the weekend.

It was a gorgeous day today and I’m so glad we’re in San Diego right now. We spent a few hours at Coronado Beach and I took two long walks; one knee and one hip periodically acting up so I’m being cautious until they settle down.

I’ve been bouncing around the same pound or two since we arrived a month ago. Not sure if I should be relieved since I am indulging myself more than at home, or if I should be frustrated because I can’t control myself to the extent I did at home. I did lose the couple of pounds gained during restaurant week. Basically I’m holding at about 36 pounds down from last summer. And I did go out in public in a 15 year old bathing suit…

So, I am relatively new to this ‘deliberate effort to get healthy and lose weight’ thing. This is really only the 2nd time in my adult life I have sustained the effort for more than a week, let’s put it that way. And, this time it is for me so motivation is really not an issue and ultimately I am optimistic I can do this. I have been consistent now for 3 weeks, which is a turning point, I feel.

But, there are ups and downs related to how much energy and oomph I have. I am doing weight watchers and staying with the point count they are giving me and I am exercising 5 days/week (two with a trainer). But, this week I was ‘off’ a bit as I am going through ‘a lot’ and this week ‘a lot’ took over so I trained a bit less, ate a bit more (still within my points allowed, but maxing out). I lost a pound which is fine, but…

I want to do a jump start week. I am thinking only fruits and veg- fresh or steamed- and 3 ounces of lean protein/day. Plus, increase exercise by 25% (more is really not realistic).

What if anything have you done when you needed a jump start?

For those looking for an ice cream treat my friend highly recommends Arctic Zero ice cream. She said it is low calorie and her family loves it. The coffee flavor is their favorite.

I keep frozen yogurt in my freezer for an occasional treat. The Edy’s vanilla fat free yogurt blends is good. There are 90 calories in a half cup. I spoon it into a measuring cup and eat it straight from the cup to make sure I don’t go overboard. Sometimes I put a spoonful of frozen yogurt on top of my fat free fruit flavored reg. yogurt, throw a few berries in and sprinkle some granola on top. It almost like an ice cream sundae. Even DH likes it.

Hi Dummies!
Well after two weeks without a single glass of wine, I gained two pounds. So much for that!
I did Pilates for the first time in over a year today. It felt good! I was surprised at how hard it was on my abs. I have been doing a lot of weights and ab workouts so I thought it would be a breeze. Not so much!

Stagnated (vs. gained) over the weekend: hoping to stay on track and lose more this week! Give me strength!!!

SJTH - if you can just stay the same weight over a weekend, consider it a victory!

I really believe the whole maintenance thing is so much more difficult that anyone acknowledges. There are tons of programs for weight loss, but maintaining is lonelier. Nobody wants to hear how you’ve stayed the same weight. Big deal. And yet, it is so easy to get derailed.

One thing I finally realized is that you can easily overeat by 2000+ calories, but you can’t under eat by that amount. So, during a weekend when you splurge at some event, it does take days of eating slightly below your maintenance intake to make up for the indulgence. I am not sure if I explained that clearly, but you can’t do negative calories.

Anyway - I went to a wonderful retirement luncheon for a dear friend. Lots of appetizers, great buffet, drinks were flowing - I indulged in some baked brie, two glasses of wine, other naughty items, but I really took small amounts. I seemed to have survived with little damage - but I will go into my stricter mode for a couple of days just to offset that day.

I did a lot of walking and did the gym routine twice in Atlanta, but I am sure the eating we did more than made up for it! Happy to say though that I was not at all sore from the run around the park, but dh was. He only does elliptical for aerobic exercise, while I do a lot of walking with the occasional (short) run.

I agree wnp, it can take a while to make up for overindulging.

I am also getting frustrated by the weekends ! We eat out most Fri and Sat nights. Fri night, no wine and had a fajita chicken salad- no cheese or sour cream. Saturday D1 came home for 20hrs ( ! ) so we went out for a nice family dinner to Brio. One glass of wine, no bread, grilled shrimp with asparagus and Orzo ( left most of the Orzo), no dessert. result gained back 1.5 pounds.

I have been tracking my weight and calories on the livestrong website. For the past 3 weeks I tend to drop weight mid week then gain a little back over the weekend. I am still having a net loss of 1-2 pounds weekly - but when the scale number rises, I am not a happy mummy!

I still feel a lot better- more energy and my skin is lovely! Trying to focus on that rather than what the scale indicates for a few days!

Gibson- that weekend weight gain could very well just be water retention from the sodium in the eating out food. I try not to weigh in on the weekend or on Monday.
I did walk on the weekend but did terrible on my dining out choices. Friday night I had a crispy beef taco and had chips which I usually am able to skip. Saturday night was indian food, I indulged in both the rice and the naan. At this rate I am not going to break my current weight! Also ate not one but two vegan brownies!

I made a cake for the kids, but just ate very expensive mixed berries myself and feel spoiled by that! Hope I can maintain that glow until the cake is gone!!! It is helping me to write on this board, and get advice from you all…if I write too much, its to keep this on the front page of the 'Cafe! Thanks all.

…aaaannnnnnnd I succumbed to the cake. Back on track today!

SJTH- hard to resist cake! I made some scones for my book club ( we read a British book). They are terrible and going straight in the trash, so no temptation for me.

I also struggle with weekends (and frankly, when DH is in town). He likes going out to eat and cooks a lot more (and less healthy foods) than I have grown accustomed to. Boy, it is easy to eat an extra 1000 calories without even thinking!!

Now down 37. My doc practically danced on his desk when I went in last week (he hasn’t seen me since last April). Now if I can only get the joints and neck cooperating…I am climbing Masada in less than three months! I had hoped this new drug would have less joint pain side effects, but looks like it’s worse. OTOH, it has done exactly what it’s supposed to vis-a-vis the leukies! :)

any ideas what i give to 75 lbs, mother. No teeth, 95 yo.

its overwhelming to see 150 women do dance exercise. Where are the MEN?
