Weight Loss for Dummies

Same weight as last week. I bought a new bathing suit!!

Explanation on exercise headphones. Regular earbuds might slip out easily during a brisk walk. These headphones go around the back of the head and are very securely in place but comfortable. You can run and they won’t slip off. Of course, they can be used at other times, but I think if you were sitting still you might just want to use earbuds because they are less obtrusive. I find that music makes me walk faster and keeps me going.

The downside of the bar-style headphones is that you can’t use them while lying down or sitting with your head reclined. I have this style and it is great for running - I tried other styles and found that I sweat so much that the earbud style slips out after a few miles. There is the over-the-ear type too which stay on quite well but the bar-style is the best for not getting cord tangle.

Thanks for the explanation, all. I like to listen to podcasts and books on tape when I walk. Keeps me interested and makes the time fly.

I lost another lb this week–yay, and even was good yesterday knowing DH and I were going out to dinner. I did a run/walk with the dog to do a little 30 min. “intervals” session, walked to the restaurant for dinner and did quite a few stairs. Yay. Going to buy a pair of pants tomorrow–if that goes well, that will be a nice motivator!!!

Does anyone know if there is an effective supplement or vitamin for joint health? As I’ve been amping up the exercise, I am having a lot of aches and pains in my hips and neck. I know I’ve seen commercials for stuff but don’t know if I believe it.

Fish oil helps, i have also taken chondrotin/glucosamine ( and gave it to my dog for several years). I currently am taking Sam-e.

Thanks! I’ll check those out.

I just bought some glucosamine with MSM and fish oil caps. I’ve been having joint pain as well, and I figure this is a better choice than popping advil, assuming it works. Like Emeraldkitty, my dog and cats take glucosamine. What’s good for the…ah…goose?

DH and I take fish oil and glucosamine every night after dinner(supposed to take it after a meal) . We’ve been taking it for well over a year now. It really does help w/ the joint pain.

Walgreens has Fish Oil “buy one-get one free” deal pretty often.

Checking in: 13 pounds lost!

I was clearing out my closet last night- my size 12 jeans fit again. Yeah… nice to have a change in clothes without spending any money : )

EPTR- I am with you with the pain. I said to my H on Saturday, it would be nice to have my body not hurting. His response- age!

Congrats, Gibson! I’m at 8 1/2, with 12 1/2 left! I’m wearing some jeans that have been in my drawer for a year that have been a titch too tight! Does anyone take the glucosamine and fish oil after/with breakfast?

Ditto on the aches & pains! I read that it’s good to make beef stock with bones…it’s like taking glucosamine. I use flaxseed meal in muffins; it’s full of Omega-3’s which are good against inflammation, therefore good for your arthritis & tendinitis, not to mention your heart.

Seems like every little thing–a pinched nerve here, a wee bit of tendinitis there…adds up, until low-level hurting is the NORM. :(

Great job, Gibson!

Went through my closet Saturday night and found stuff that hasn’t fit me in eight years. Woohoo! Have hit another plateau, but trying on stuff that used to be too small was good motivation to hang in there.

I have no idea how it happened, but we’re back home and the Wii Fit has me down 2 pounds. My new diet regimen is now to spend 9 hours driving every day and to eat fast food for lunch, since apparently that works! Or maybe it was climbing over the Rockies  that did it.

(Actually, I suspect that the Wii Fit was weighing me slightly heavier in San Diego since the houses had thinner carpets with no padding.)

But…comparing apples to apples, I’m down 5 pounds from before we left home in December. Total since last June is now 40.5, which I never envisioned.

I am with all of you on the pain - mine is mostly in my feet. With two bunions and a hammertoe, my feet always ache when I use them. PackMom - I’m sure good insoles would be of some help, but my major problem is getting enough width across the top of the foot. I have one old pair of Sketchers that are the only ones I can really use for long term walking. I’ve gone to specialty shoe stores and the wide shoes still seem to squeeze. So I just live with some pain and take Advil as needed.

Well, I gained .5 lbs. in Feb. Here’s hoping I do better this month!

Yesterday I was in so much pain in my neck and shoulders. I happened to be in Barnes and Noble and came across this item on the clearance rack. It was a kit called The Miracle Ball by Elaine Petrone. I’m copying the link to it on Amazon.

Anyway, I bought it on a whim and tried it last night. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or a fluke or what but today is the first time in months that, without taking advil, I have full, painless mobility of my neck.

It’s just two soft inflatable balls and it comes with a book that explains the method for pain relief and natural posture adjustment. The method talks a lot about breathing, stress and using gravity and breathing techniques to relieve stress and pain. I did the recommended positions for neck pain and went to bed. When I woke up, my neck felt better. The book has a lot of positions for different issues. I’ll be trying the techniques for hip pain next!

Here’s the link.

After you’ve dealt with your pains, EPTR, perhaps you could read up a little and share about how to reshape our bodies…I could use a new shape!

^^^
Couldn’t we all! Lol.
